What's Your Take on This ? I owned a few 535s (formerly my main amp years ago with the Adcom tuner/preamp, also used one as a recording studio amp and their great as a utilitarian extra speaker amp) and after moving on and selling most of them over the years I was down to a...
Schiit not that Good? My name has zero to do with Jerry Garcia as I borrowed the last names of 2 friends (Dave Wolf and Tom Garcia) for a one off open mike gig, and I liked the results so I kept the name for music related things including mixing and playing shows. Usin...
Decware and SET Low Power Tube Amps with Hi Efficency Speakers I recently added a pair of Klipsch Heresy III speakers to my rig and their claimed 99db efficiency allows the use of very low power amps...2 to 3 watt SE stuff is popular with these things…so I assumed my Dennis Had SEP at 12 watts per side would ...
Schiit not that Good? There's barely any reason to turn off the tubes as preamp tubes generally last a fairly long time anyway, and if you are switching from one of the other modes you don't want to wait a minute for the tubes to warm up…if the passive or FET mode is w...
Over time, with playing constant playing, do vinyl records wear out? I used a KLH compact system (Model 20 maybe…no tuner) through the 70s and somehow the Pickering cartridge (had a little attached dust brush) didn't destroy my vinyl. Amazingly.
Meldhau, Raitt Bonnie Raitt is a national treasure, and I'm seeing Brad's trio this weekend (saw Brad do his "Bach with Improvisations" solo thing last year…one of the best left hands in jazz).
You guys are the greatest! I had a 15 gallon aquarium in my house in the 70s, and Yes albums not only fit the back of the thing perfectly, but made excellent fish staging art. All of my Yes albums now have slightly water damaged edges, but it was worth it.
Trouble in Fleetwood Mac....... Buckingham seems somewhat overrated as a guitar player (personal taste, although if you appreciate grimacing while flailing away at one note he's great at that, and hey…some OK fingerpicking!) and is a mediocre singer although a seemingly passiona...
Why have the prices of Marantz and Sansui speakers have gone up so much? Whyyyy??? I hated those damn things…screechy crap, but used by everybody.
Why have the prices of Marantz and Sansui speakers have gone up so much? Whyyyy??? From when I first became aware of good home audio in the late 60s through later years it was always a mystery to me as to why the Japanese made lousy speakers. Including Sansui…I had a large pair of Sansui speakers for a while (left with me by a f...
Schiit not that Good? If you have any confidence in your own ears, anybody providing less than positive comments on gear you own really shouldn’t matter, unless maybe it’s seen as a fire hazard. I’ve heard very well regarded gear at high end hifi "salons" or friend’s h...
Two Type of sound and listener preference are there more? The "mystery" part of my last comment is the fact that Johns' mixing generally yielded exellant results.
Preamp under $2,000 used Georgehifi and I should at least get free t-shirts from Schiit…I haven't "auditioned" piles of preamps and the one the Freya replaced is a serious dual mono Kavent/Vincent beast, but I like tubes, and the Freya certainly "seems" to work really wel...
Finally bought my subwoofers...Sumiko S-10 My Q150e has a ground lift that made the thing completely humless, and the 108II never hummed perhaps due to an anti-hum thing on its cable. I wire both with Canare cable and the three wire (2 positive, 1 negative) scheme to the Speakon plugs. I a...
Finally bought my subwoofers...Sumiko S-10 I use 2 older RELS (Q150e and a Q108II) and can't imagine not having these things. I also have a (no longer made) 92lb Mackie HR120 studio sub (has a down firing EAW 12" and a 12" passive radiator on the front) that claims to be flat to 19hz, and ... |
