When the Power Tubes Run Out Yeah…people forget that…I've used tube guitar amps since the mid 60s and they do dwarf the hifi tube usage by many, many multiples. I also note that people who are concerned with the gentle care of tube amps should think about what many tube guita...
Inexpensive Tube Amps Primaluna and Hegel…(maybe somebody already mentioned this) they're made in China.
Does anyone leave their amp and preamp on all the time? I’ve known people who’s houses have been hit by lightening and you can kiss yer D’Agostinos goodby if that happens…I unplug stuff when gone for over a day, and during close thunderstorms.
Does anyone leave their amp and preamp on all the time? Leaving amps on is fine, just don't tell anyone that you're a self indulgent energy waster. I leave my cars running all the time also...dangerous and wasteful but hey...they're always ready to go...fridge door is always open for easy access to foo...
When the Power Tubes Run Out I have enough spare tubes, both new and NOS, to last for a decade or longer. I assume many other tube heads also have a stash much larger than mine, but without intentionally hoarding I think curiosity just gets more tubes in the drawer.
Vandersteen Sub woofers v Rythmik Subs My main speakers are in front and to the sides of a gas fireplace that protrudes nearly 2 feet into the room (Klipsch Heresy III horn speakers so the fireplace has zero effect on the tone, and they’re 7 feet apart). The corner made by the fireplac...
Vandersteen Sub woofers v Rythmik Subs I've been using a pair of RELs (Q150e and Q108II) for years with excellent results paired with a couple of different main speakers and amps. REL's "High Level" input of course keeps the mains full range, puts a benign 100,000 ohm load on the amp ...
We Need A Separate Forum for Fuses The fuses left in the drawer don't have any effect on circuits. The ones installed in gear, with AC involved, pass current both ways. I looked it up.
We Need A Separate Forum for Fuses Fuse direction has absolutely zero to do with phase. For fuses dealing with alternating current, fuse direction has absolutely nothing to do with anything. One could think they hear something "like" phase anomolies from changing the fuse direction...
Horn based loudspeakers why the controversy? Oswalds Mill Audio seems pretty cool, but no pricing. In any case, thanks for the reference.
Horn based loudspeakers why the controversy? I refuse to mention my gigs here to protect my privacy, as I can't be hassled by audio geeks when I work my magic. SECURITY!
It really comes to something when a brand as iconic as Gibson Guitars cant stay afloat! Bad ideas and bad management can sink any business...I used to like Saabs.
Horn based loudspeakers why the controversy? The Heresy IIIs do need, for my tastes anyway, a good sub to make a full range system. I use 2 RELs I already owned when I bought the Heresy IIIs, and they took some time to adjust as they were getting significantly less signal from the amp as the...
Most musical, enjoyable affordable amplifier I bought a modern single ended tube "boutique" guitar amp (I'd owned old Fender amps, some of which were single ended) and liked it a lot, and it got me wondering what single ended tube hifi would sound like after many SS amps over decades, althou...
I'm thinking about a Jolida system, and would like to know from those in the know! My Jolida 502p amp was amazing. Sounded extremely well balanced tonally, and was a joy to roll tubes through, from NOS Mullards 12AT7s, Gold Lion 12AX7s, and various KT88s, KT120s (Lasted a very long time), KT150s, etc., and had a factory upgrade ... |
