HELP!!! I need a “GOOD-CHEAP” preamp solution???
The Saga...I forget about that thing and it really has to be at the top of the tube "bargain" heap...great user reviews, and for many it's all the preamp you might need.
One Amp To ‘Rule’ Them All....
Everybody agrees that the Dennis Had Firebottle single ended amp is the best there is, and I find that comforting since I own one.
REL Subwoofer Rattling
I take most newly acquired things apart just to make sure everything looks solid, and that includes both of my RELs (UK made Q150e and Q108MKII) and with speakers I always tighten all of the screws...I do that once in a while anyway as things do l...
new L100?
Yeah...modify them...do something...
Portland Maine
I just saw Umphrey's McGee at the State Theater. Incomprehensible jam band music with great lights, but still, it's great to see the State up and running!
Does my amp have enough juice to power my speakers?
The sensitivity of the speakers is what counts relative to needed power...my 12wpc single ended tube amp through my 99db efficiency speakers will knock yer tattoos off.
new L100?
The Yamaha NS10, widely used in studios, sound like nails grating on a chalkboard. I once considered a campaign to rid the world of those things as the inherent screeching produced by them is an audio nightmare, and the reason for severe depressio...
HELP!!! I need a “GOOD-CHEAP” preamp solution???
The Freya has a well regarded and well publicized (at least among those who actually look at the available information) volume system described on the Schiit site thusly: "Most preamps—passive or active—use a potentiometer for volume control. Frey...
Tekton Design's new THE PERFECT SET equals "goosebumps time"
Thanks...I feel much better now. I have noted here and there that the lower powered amp binds me to efficient speakers thus ruining any fantasies regarding all the cool small speakers out there, but the Heresy IIIs sound so good I'm OK (although c...
HELP!!! I need a “GOOD-CHEAP” preamp solution???
The only criticism of the Freya (and my other little Schiits like the Loki and 2 Magni 3s) I have is that the LEDs are too bright...if you take the thing apart like I did to put a some green marker on the lights (this works), you may spend a lot o...
Gold Lion KT77 tubes for Primaluna Amp - a few questions
Persistent tube failure! BUMMER...A tube can fail "whenever" but new factory matched tubes from most sellers seem reliable in my experience...ya never know...a 90 day warranty is common, thetubestore.com does 6 months on some...that's about all yo...
Do you listen to equipment or music.
The audiophile community is NOT composed of simply two subgroups, it seems more like wildly varying shades of both camps at once. I keep things in my gear heap until something dies or I actually feel like something needs improvement, or I just WAN...
Tekton Design's new THE PERFECT SET equals "goosebumps time"
The newest Coincident Dynamo seems like a cool amp, at least based on the recent review I read somewhere, and it’s gorgeous...I considered a used one when shopping for a single ended amp (it was the older version), but my "bought used 3 months aft...
new L100?
I’m willing to bet they don’t sound anything like the originals, which had a response curve like a big smile, but were everywhere back in the day...I think all of the foam grills melted off at the same time worldwide, but that might be a rumor I j...
Altec A7 yay or nay?
I found that my A7s I dragged around  for PA use (mostly) from the early 70s well into the early 80s sounded amazing. Wooden...something...anyway mine were originally supplied with an Altec 15 which was just OK, but stick a JBL serious bass speake...
