What's more important; sound or brand name?
"LESS FILLING!!! TASTES BETTER!!! LESS FILLING!!! TASTES BETTER!!!" Does it really matter - if you like it - "why" you like it? Or what anyone else thinks about it?
What's the best 2 channel amp for 1k?
For this question, it would help us to help you if you could specify:1. Your mussic/listening preferences (i.e., genres and styles, normal listening volume, any perference for tubes or solid state, etc). 2. Tell us something about your listening r...
Are there speakers after Stax?
T_bone, that's a good question, and unfortunately the answer is no. The RKV has 2 headphone jacks on the front and 2 sets of RCA inputs on the back, but no speaker terminals. The stock cable for the K-1000's is terminated with a male 4 pin XLR con...
Are there speakers after Stax?
Plato, you're absolutely right that the K-1000's use a dynamic design. I've just gone to the AKG website and it says as much - which is all the more reason to be amazed at their lightning quick transient response and detailed resolution - they sur...
Are there speakers after Stax?
I've been spending a lot of time with my Stax Omega II system of late (which uses the Stax 007t amp). I find this setup to be significantly better than the 4040 system which I have heard but not owned, especially in terms of it's uber amazing bass...
xrcd 24 - someone did digital right
Rich, thanks for the list - very useful!
Brubeck's 'Time Out' listeners
Mprime, I've listened to this track several times at different volume levels, and there is no doubt that something a little different going on in the interval you describe, I'm just not sure what it is. I have not seen the live performance, so I c...
Brubeck's 'Time Out' listeners
Ya, Brubeck farted a lot, but always on key! That's why most people don't know about it and so few systems are able to pick it up. It's a wonderful sensation when a simple tweek allows you to smell a familiar recordiing like it was just cut... Ahh...
Best Portable CD Player
I should have mentioned the http://www.head-fi.org website. Do an archive search on the head-fi forum for "Sources" and you will find tons of opinions about many different PCDP's.
Atlantis Reference racks - opinions?
I use 2 of the Reference 5 racks and enjoy them very much. Although I cannot comment on other racks in terms of giving a comparison, I can say the Atlantis racks are quite strong when the legs are sand filled. They are easy to adjust for proper is...
Found an interesting way to compare IC cables...
I suspect that ((((as a general rule)))) this would be an excellent way to test the differences in cables, or really any other component for that matter. High end headphones should provide a more detailed and direct presentation of music than you ...
SACD fans look at this
Thanks Tim!!!
I can't stop listening on my headphones.
You should check out http://www.head-fi.org to learn more about all things headphone related. There are bunch of great people over there, very similar to Audiogon in terms of the friendly banter.
Audiogon Annual Convention
Over at head-fi there is a sub-forum for "Meetings, Parties, Get togethers" (see http://www.head-fi.org/). Of course it's quite easy to lug along your own headphones and headphone amps. With home audio systems, the execution may be a little tricky...
Talon Khorus - Why So Many So Cheap?
They are an absolute steal at their used prices! Opinions may vary, and thus the creation of a marketplace. Where is Adam Smith when we need him? Or maybe Joseph Schumpeter - the economist who coined the term "creative destructionism" whereby the ...
