Modern Day Ragtime Genius
Hey, nice post! I had read about him several years ago in the Chicago Tribune, but never did get a chance to hear him play. I've just ordered all 3 of his CDs and can't wait for the 4th one to come out!
Universal player sought
The 9000ES does not have a headphone jack. In fact, very few high end players do. I've had great results with the Shanling T100 (CD only, used price about $1k) and T200 (CD and SACD, used price more like $1,700). The Shanling headphone outs are fe...
Headphone replacement cables?
Todd the Vinyl (and Headphone) Junkie sell the Grado "flat" pads, which most people prefer to the stock "bowl" pads that come from Grado. His online store is accessible from www.head-fi.org (Todd is one of the head-fi sponsors, so you will find a ...
CD Cases / Furniture Recommendations?
There are a lot of good choices. I've been happy with the Boltz racks, which are quite nice. The Can-am cabinets that Supco provided the link for do not take up space, and they are also low profile in terms of not interfering with your room design....
Review: Shanling SCD-T200 w/ EA Turbomod CD Player
Jeff, see www.empiricalaudio.com for the cost and a brief overview of the mods done. I'd imagine you would need to talk with Steve about the specifics. This was the message that Labtec relayed to me, so I'm just responding in his absence.Labtec, t...
Bob Dylan: What do you folks thing about this?
Bob's just trying to have some fun, and believe it or not, he's also trying to figure out this existence and where he fits within it just like we are.
Headphone amp as main amp?
There has been a ton of discussion about the Perreaux SHX1 as a headphone amp over at www.head-fi.org which you can find with the search feature there. I'm not sure if anyone has used it to drive speakers.
Virtual Dynamics Master Reference P/C's & Cables
Head-fi member Hirsch did a detailed review and quite liked the Master series - the interconnects in particular -relative to his Nite II's. See Hirsch's master series review: http://www5.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?s=26947656975bdf5e662a84eb...
What in wall speaker?
You should check out the Bohlender Graebener in wall options (there are many) at Parts Express. You could also visit the BG Corp website.http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage.cfm?WebPage_ID=135I've not tried any of their in-walls, but use a pair of ...
Audio Desk Systeme...comments?
Ajm29, my experience has been exactly as Ed has described above so nicely. My Audio Desk unit was a slightly used demo from an Audiogon dealer (but I can't remember which one for the life of me) and thus any adjustments that may have been necessar...
Headphone Recommendation?
If you go with Sennheiser, the new model, HD650 is a big step up from the HD600 or HD580. I agree that the the step from 580 to 600 is small, but the 650's are truly world class, but now you're looking at $350 and then it would be a shame to not a...
Headphone Recommendation?
I'm with Todd. www.head-fi.org is the place to go for this question, not that I would discourage headphone-talk over here. I've kind of gone off the deep ends with the headphone / headphone amp / replacements cables end of this fine hobby, but it ...

Using Headphone amp as a Preamp ? Any good ??
I'm in agreement with Swampwalker that Head-fi is the best place to find a lot of well informed opinions on this question. I've tried my Sugden Headmaster as a preamp and was not terribly impressed, but I don't have experience with other preamps i...
