any Zu Soul Super Fly owner in bay area? Daniel, if you could respond to me via email, I'll send you both my address.
any Zu Soul Super Fly owner in bay area? Happy to have you visit. This weekend is out, but the following weekend would work. Let's trade email later. Even better if we can get Daniel over at the same time too.
any Zu Soul Super Fly owner in bay area? I'm a Superfly owner living in San Mateo. You're welcome to come by pretty much any time. Send me an email. If you already have a SET amplifier, please bring it along. I have my speakers paired with the Quad II Classic monoblocks, which are conside...
First Watt M2 versus F3 Yes it does, thanks!
what impacts the sound quality more amp or pre-amp I'm happy to stand corrected. Generally, I've been choosing efficient and easy to drive speakers to pair up with comparatively low power tube amplifiers. It didn't occur to me that Harbeths, for example, are relatively inefficient but remain easy ...
what impacts the sound quality more amp or pre-amp The Alon II speakers are specified as 87 db efficient and are, I think, 4 ohm nominal impedance. This is a difficult load for most tube amplifiers to drive. My personal feeling is that if you want tube sound that you should go with a tube amplifier...
1970's receivers and integrated amps... Plato versus Bob.The vintage Pioneer from the early seventies is likely remarkably different from the vintage Pioneer from the late seventies reviewed by Harry Pearson.I suspect that solid state gear over that decade really evolved and changed qui...
Tube amp advice There is a Music Reference RM-200 on Audiogon right now which is known to drive difficult loads well. It's no CAT, and it's not 200 lbs, but 90 seems like a good start. I haven't heard the RM-200 myslf, but I do own its smaller cousin, the RM-10.

Preamp or Not It should work out ... on paper anyway. The Plinius SA-100 amplifiers have 47 Kohm input impedance, which is theoretically a reasonable match for a passive (Lightspeed, Bent, etc) and hence a reasonable match for source direct. Also, both the Arcam ...
how close in sound can a tube and ss amp sound ? I don't think it's commonly agreed what a tube amplifier sounds like anyway. To say that you want a solid state amplifier to sound like a tube amplifier, well, what kind of tube amplifier and in what way?In broad generalizations, an OTL does not s...
Totem Forest, Zu Soul, or Superfly Having read through the threads myself when I was considering my first Zu purchase, I noted that many who said that the Zu sound made them run from the room had listened in convention / show conditions. As I understand, the Zu speakers have rarely...
Totem Forest, Zu Soul, or Superfly Have never heard a Totem, but at 87 db sensitivity, it's not very efficient at all and is likely a poor match for a 15 watt amplifier, monoblocks or otherwise.I think the Soul (I have the Superfly) is quite special and would sing with 15 watts.
$3500 to spend on a tube preamp....ideas? The Herron M1s have 220Kohm input impedance and (I think) 1V input sensitivity, so they're a good candidate for the Lightspeed Attenuator. But we'd still need to know output impedance on your sources to see if the Lightspeed would really be approp...
Zu Soul Superfly Gopher: Have you considered sending in your S-30 to Atma-sphere for service?Bjesien: Just looked on Zu's site. Latest price for Essence is $3600, which is consistent with their pricing after they got out of the more traditional dealer model. |
