Transcendent Sound Grounded Grid PreAmp heard it?
I have owned this preamp. It is the best of the less than $1000 preamps I've had in my system. Excellent low end response, fast and dynamic. It is, however, not as transparent as I think it could be. Replacement of the cheap volume pot, either wit...
Are Plextor burners compatible with Macbook Pro?
The Plextor should work with the Mac burning CD-R and DVD type media. If you're considering a BluRay offering from Plextor, the BluRay function may not work.Having said that, consult the Plextor web site. They should have documented whether their ...
Arts Audio Joto
As to whether or not the Jota is appropriate for your speakers, it would be helpful to know what speakers they are, not just how efficient they happen to be.
Arts Audio Joto
Hudson Audio is the new service center for Art Audio products. I haven't heard anything negative about Hudson Audio, so I don't see a problem.
TRL Dude Dilemna
The benefit is that the impedances between the two components will be corrected. The drawback is that the Burson introduces some gain and may introduce unwanted coloration. Hard to tell if it's the dream fix without trying it. Anyway, $550 new, ca...
TRL Dude Dilemna
> I find some way to make the Dude and > Viva's happy together by getting Paul to > adjust the output impedanceAs I was saying, this is what a buffer is for. The Burson comes to mind.
TRL Dude Dilemna
Isn't this what a buffer is for? The Burson AB-160 may be worth trying.Anyway, I'll echo what others have said: I'd get rid of the Dude sooner than I'd abandon SET amplifiers. Although to be fair, I don't know why a different pair of SET amplifier...
Need to choose NAD 326BEE or Marantz PM 8004
Virtue, Dayens, or Rega would deliver better value for your dollar. I don't care much for the NAD or Marantz sound.
Pass Aleph 30 + Placette Passive Pre OK?
You generally want the input impedance to be at least 20x the output impedance. More would be better, say 25-30x.
Buying Tubes Again; Maddening
Jim McShane is terrific. Another is Andy at Vintage Tube Services. I once bought a tube from him, got rid of the gear, never used the tube then called him up 3 months later asking if I could trade the tube in for another. He said no problem. Wheth...
Sonic Frontier or Modwright 9.0SE for Aragon Amp
Modwright SWL 9.0 output impedance is 600 ohms. The input impedance of the Aragon at 22K ohms means that it is roughly 35 times the output impedance of the preamp. These components should be fine in terms of impedance matching.
Paid a bit too much for a Citation II...
Hahah. Yes. I thought it was a current thread given the response before mine was earlier today. But yes, this is over a year old.Sigh.
Paid a bit too much for a Citation II...
I don't think I understand. The amp won't work well with the tube? The Citation II is a tube amp, presumably designed to work with the tubes that are intended for use.Do you mean the Citation II won't work well with your speakers? Or that the prea...
Modwright LS36.5 tubes
There is not a big difference between the Sovtek and the Electro-Harmonix. The Electro-Harmonix is ever so slightly smoother and sweeter than the Sovtek, but the difference was negligible in the Dodd Buffer Preamp that I had in my system for a lit...
Modwright LS36.5 tubes
I think the general recommendation is the Mullard 5AR4 for the rectifier tube and the 6H30DR as the input tubes. If you can't afford the 6H30DR tubes, I think the Electro-Harmonix 6H30 is preferable to the Sovtek 6H30.There's a whole thread on tub...
