Budget Office System Integrated for $1000 or less Is the $1000 for the whole system or just the electronics? If the latter, how about a Yamaha RN803d receiver? 2x100 watt should be enough in most situations, it has ample digital inputs, airplay, a sub out, a remote app, dlna compatibility in case...

Room Acoustics I am surprised there is so little discussion of room acoustics here, compared to cables or electronics that have far less impact on the final sound (if any).Anyway, here is a link to a nice old BBC manual on the subject: http://downloads.bbc.co.uk...

Harbeth M30.1 vs B&W CM10 s2 If you ever consider subwoofers (I like them), get (at least) two smaller ones instead of one big sub for a smoother response. And use room eq like the DSpeaker Antimode 8033, to tame room modes. See here for a first introduction: http://www.acous...
Harbeth M30.1 vs B&W CM10 s2 The M30.2 is a special anniversary edition with a different (I think ugly, but that is a matter of taste) veneer. It does not replace the M30.1, so the numbering is a bit confusing, I think.
Directionality of wire Indeed. You have just shown the Emperor's new clothes for what they are.
Best DAC for my situation...Read on! Your phone as a dB meter is not good enough, I am afraid. With such small but already important differences you really need to use a Volt meter. I appreciate that complicate things, but there is no alternative if you want a reliable answer.Ther...
What are the best Bluetooth headphones? Plenty of Sennheiser models.
Open Floor Plan Listening Room This is an important reminder that no domestic space will ever give you the acoustics to mimic a concert hall. It will always be too small, limiting the dynamic range that can be reproduced, and creating havoc at lower frequencies. A good postage ...
Searching for the most "accurate" speaker (below 15K) I think here the room really is the elephant in the room. 20 sq m is small, and too small for great dynamics or deep bass. That is just physics. Depending on the precise dimensions, the Schroeder frequency will be somewhere in the range 175-200 Hz...

Searching for the most "accurate" speaker (below 15K) In a room of that size you do not want too much bass. Something like a Harbeth M30.1 is the maximum of what a room like that can handle before you will suffer from pretty bad room modes. Even so, I would investigate dsp room equalization.
A nice discussion of reviewers priorities. But a frequency response curve (under real load in case of an amp) and some distortion measurements would help, as would an impedance curve to decide how hard to drive a speaker will be. |
