Downsizing Speakers in Main Listening Room - Your Feedback on Some options
Did I say he has to turn up the volume?
Advantages of beryllium?
The market largely consists of elderly white men with degenerated hearing who claim to have golden ears. It is ironic indeed, but the result of this combination is that the market is now gutted with overly bright speakers that are tiring to listen...
Audiophiles should learn from people who created audio
Reading that text would certainly be educational.
Downsizing Speakers in Main Listening Room - Your Feedback on Some options
I think this is bad advice. Floorstanders are a bad idea in a small room because of their uneven in room response. Changing the electronics is unlikely to make much of an audible difference, if at all. A bit more power might help, but that is abou...

The problem is that the truth is denied by slick salesmen and their gullible victims.
Speaker Cable Length Impact
Indeed, unless they are in the way.
Searching for the most "accurate" speaker (below 15K)
Depending on what you mean by large, you are wrong. Room modes are peaks (and nulls) at the resonance frequencies of the room. The smaller the room, the higher the frequency this occurs. Hence, using big speakers with a lot of low frequency output...

If you are lucky (and you may well be if gain is correctly matched) you will hear no difference. If you hear a difference, you know the pre amplifier is the culprit.
Best amps for everything EXCEPT bass
I think you need more power, and lots of it. Why not get a Bryston rather than boutique stuff?

I get the impression that few posters realize that under 20 sq m is actually a very small room, both to physically fit some of the larger speakers, and to make them sing without room modes. 20 sq m = 215 sq feet.

In a publishing universe of almost completely subjective waffle without facts I like JA's measurements and graphs. I have learned to read his prose very carefully, and ignore the commercial talk. The amplifier measurements with a simulated real lo...

The traditional purpose of a pre amplifier was to bring the different output levels of analogue sources to the same level (and add the massive RIAA equalization required by the phono input), to allow you to switch between these sources, to use ton...
USB cable opinions
I don't think they make any difference, and that is to be expected. See here for some telling tests: http://archimago.blogspot.nl/2013/04/measurements-usb-cables-for-dacs.html
Directionality of wire
The only difference between Geoff's snake oil and that of other snake oil sellers is that it is a bit more obvious. At least this scam is still quite cheap compared to $599 bi-wire jumpers from Nordost.
Room Acoustics
Indeed. When we had our house designed we made sure to reduce background noise. It is in a quiet area, but the Netherlands are so populated that there is always some outside noise. The construction of the house is largely brick and concrete. We sp...
