What's the solid state amp to buy $2500?
Go a bit higher and, if you can found one, buy a Jeff Rowland Concentra I or II.I've had one for many years, and have had absolutely no desire to change.
Amps under $5k that are resolving at low volumes?
My Jeff Rowland Concentra (first Gen) resolves well at low volumes.
What components are a good value in used market?
As Tvad suggests above, there are many components that represent good (or even exceptional) value on the used market.I am currently building a small, relatively inexpensive system in my current home in Lisbon, Portugal, and am already very happy w...
Best integrated up to $6000
I haven't heard nearly enough amps to answer the question, however…I feel no need whatsoever to step up from my original Jeff Rowland Concentra. Tremendous piece of equipment.
Vintage Receiver: TANDBERG, MARANTZ, or…?
As always, system synergy is the big unknown, and I have no way of guessing which of the contenders is most likely to click. While certain Marantz and Sansui models are attractive, I think that I'm going to give the Tandberg a try. It has been ser...
Vintage Receiver: TANDBERG, MARANTZ, or…?
@EbmThat's an impressive combination of poor spelling and ignorance. Well done!
How Do You Feel about The Cable Game?
I tried four or five well-reviewed cables (and interconnects, etc.) years ago, and was impressed enough with Virtual Dynamic Davids and Au24 interconnects that I never had a further urge to "improve" my mid-level system.Largely diminishing returns...
Vintage Receiver: TANDBERG, MARANTZ, or…?
@Chrshanl37That's interesting – thanks. As my system will be used in a room that is likely to add brittleness to the sound, I really want to steer more in the direction of warmth and non-bright components.@YogiboyThanks. I've always had real respe...
Vintage Receiver: TANDBERG, MARANTZ, or…?
Thanks for the input thus far, guys.@LoomisjohnsonThose are the reasons that I am inclined in that direction. I suspect that the warmth will match well with the VS-1s, and I've always had a soft spot for high-class tuners (once had a brilliant Acc...
Amplifiers:A Keeper for Life. Do you know of one ?
I have owned a first generation Jeff Rowland Concentra for many years, and see no reason whatsoever to change. I'm not suggesting that there aren't amps that are better, but rather that the sound of the Concentra is so good within the context of m...
Favorite CD player around $2k or less used
and would probably have to spend three times that ($2K) amount in order to hear any significant improvent.
Can anyone recommend a smooth, rich CD player?
If you want warm, then the Prima will be a good match. I have a modified Electrocompaniet, which I love, but the Prima is definitely warm and rich.
J.Rowland Is it possible to shut off the display
Onhwy61: Perhaps you're right, but I must say that a.) the vast majority of the CDs which I listen to sound quite well-balanced. b.) I don't really want to tinker with the balance function on a regular basis, even if the odd recording will benefit...
J.Rowland Is it possible to shut off the display
Really? How so? To compensate for bad recordings, or limitations in your listening space? I use a balance control in my car, in order to compensate for the unfortunate listening position, but a home system? Please enlighten me.

again, I haven't used the Concerto, but the Concentra is designed to be left on all of the time, and I would guess that it is the same for yours.Tony
