Fate? Karma? Purgatory? Help me put a good spin on this. Literature too. The South is famous for writers. There’s a story, perhaps apocryphal, about a record business exec visiting a road house down south and hearing this marvelous performer. He approached the artist after a set and said, I’m with X lab...
Ugrade-itis - is there a cure? I agree with @geoffkait that one addiction is often dealt with by replacing it with another (the shrinks can weigh in on that one). The solution I proposed-- chasing records (whatever your medium) at least gives you more to feed the machine and is...
Fate? Karma? Purgatory? Help me put a good spin on this. Yep, we visited the Delta a few years ago. I had this image in my mind of sepia-tones, it was quite lush and beautiful. Obviously a lot of history there, some pretty scary. I did see the road to Parchman Farm but I doubt they wanted visitors. We w...
Fate? Karma? Purgatory? Help me put a good spin on this. Take 'em down to the crossroads.
Degritter brand ultrasonic record cleaner It should work. I've had several machines and the only shortcoming I've found is that some records need more work- for those you could do a manual pre-clean with a fluid like AIVS #15, rinse it, then stick it into the US. I do find that US adds so...
Degritter brand ultrasonic record cleaner @prof - will this be your first US RCM?
Ugrade-itis - is there a cure? And as hobbyists, I think there’s always an interest in tinkering, improving, etc. What helped me was shifting my focus to the records (or whatever your preferred medium is). Lots to learn, lots of music to get played that’s new and different to y...
Cartridge recommendations I won’t necessarily recommend a particular cartridge but instead make a couple observations and ask a couple questions. I was of the school of finding the best cartridge I could afford and sticking with it. I went through a number of different car...
Does removing anti-skating really improve sound? I use a linear tracker (Kuzma Airline) and the fine horizontal balancing set up involves bouncing the arm while it is in its 'up' cueing position at different points along the face of a record to see which way the arm drifts-- the objective, if I ...
Image/soundstage and punch/bass @bdp24 - yep, i remember when that fan type driver was introduced. All: coming back to my question, isn’t "thwack" or "punch" higher in range than sub-bass typically produced by subwoofers? What settings are you using on subs -I tend to cross mine ...
Image/soundstage and punch/bass Man, I didn’t know ET was still around, let alone making speakers. I have a bunch of Rythmik subs here, but the ones in my main system--- a pair of sealed 15" are crossed over pretty low- and "punch" to me, is more upper bass, not just deep bass. ...
Doncha get bummed? I have found so many good sounding records, old and new, that I’m not deterred by the ones that sound bad. Yeah, there are some records that I love that sound kind of terrible, but I’ve gotten more open minded about more different kinds of music (...
Koetsu Rosewood - Best/safest way to clean stylus @terry9 "I use high purity vodka every 5 hours or so."....That's cool. What do you do with the cartridge?
Reel to reel @benjie- I didn't read that review, but i've heard some of the high end decks as sources using tapes sourced from masters. Some are just spectacular. There is a very 'filled in' sound and even with a top tier turntable, less of a sense of a machin...
Reel to reel Tape from masters doesn't necessarily have summed mono bass either. It can be a killer depending on the provenance of the tape. That's the hard part. If you are having fun recording LPs knock yourself out. |
