Finally, a great stylus cleaner-Onzow Zerodust!
I never found that product to be more effective than brushing. I do think the Magic Eraser and Blu-stuff will remove detritus that is stubbornly attached to the stylus tip, but in the last year or so, I stopped using those too- I know Peter L. adv...
What is it about spinning vinyl?
@mijostyn--do you own any original Vertigo Swirls? If you are in the mindset, you can just watch the record spinning....
Technics or Kuzma turntable.
I have a very early SP-10 (mark I)- not the desired motor, heavy platter or speed control) that I have owned since 1973 and had Bill Thalmann restore it. I also have a Kuzma XL with Airline arm, which was the big daddy of the line originally. Not ...
Anybody use tubes in their ht system?
I did at one point- three ARC amps, two stereo, one mono, plus other amps for subs. Unnecessary in my estimation. Generates heat. But audio in film or tv (as opposed to a soundtrack album) isn't really purist stuff- it's a mishmash of sounds, dial...
Possible Cartridge Suspension Collapse?
Not really a great series of options, is it? I'm of the view that it is not worth sinking more money into this cartridge, but call Steve at VAS, explain the problem (you are free to use my name- he knows me as Bill Hart fwiw) and see what he says....
Stone fireplace wall effects on acoustics?
@audioquest4life - not to derail the thread, but I'd like to talk to you offline about your Classic Audio T1.5. Perhaps we can do a call when you have the time. I'll send you a PM.Thanks, Bill Hart
Stone fireplace wall effects on acoustics?
I'll echo Pauly and add- the suck out problem, as I know it, typically arises when people put their speakers to either side of the FP, which may look grand but as all of you are aware, has to be dealt with. Hard to predict in the abstract how it w...
Turntable isolation platform Recommendations?
I'd love to go for a drive.
Ultrasonic LP Cleaning vs. “Thread Type” Cleaning (Keith Monks/Loricraft/etc.)
Too bad about Vinyl Stack- that was apparently a good product and not crazy money.
Ultrasonic LP Cleaning vs. “Thread Type” Cleaning (Keith Monks/Loricraft/etc.)
Terry, it is a long document, so this article will take you to a link where you can download the 2nd Edition of Neil’s wonderful paper (now a tome). https://thevinylpress.com/precision-aqueous-cleaning-of-vinyl-records-2nd-edition/
Power conditioning for multiple dedicated circuits
My non-technical contribution at this point- I have done a number of rooms over the years with dedicated circuits and they cannot, at least where I lived by code, be entirely separate from the main household electrical service. (If you live in a p...
Possible Cartridge Suspension Collapse?
@clearthinker- that's too bad- those cartridges are well regarded; haven't heard one in years. You know, there is another participant here at Audiogon with a similar "handle" but he typically speaks in triplets-that is, anything said, spoken or wr...
Ultrasonic LP Cleaning vs. “Thread Type” Cleaning (Keith Monks/Loricraft/etc.)
The cleaning expert @terry9 referred to upthread might have been Neil Antin. Neil was responsible, among other things, for developing cleaning methods to scrub 02 systems on submarines for the U.S. Navy. He is a trained engineer with a fertile min...
Power conditioning for multiple dedicated circuits
I would definitely look for vendors and products that allow a trial and return period- I'm not suggesting power conditioners don't work- in fact, they may work effectively in eliminating more than what you intended. I eventually got rid of all pow...
Ultrasonic LP Cleaning vs. “Thread Type” Cleaning (Keith Monks/Loricraft/etc.)
@lewm: As @vinylshadow mentioned, these pumps are off the shelf. Monks claims theirs is specially adapted to spec from a pump commonly used in dialysis machines with a low failure rate and the ability to run continuously for a long while. If you s...
