Ultrasonic LP Cleaning vs. “Thread Type” Cleaning (Keith Monks/Loricraft/etc.)
I use a Monks Omni-basically a reboot of the original Monks with some refinements, in combination with ultrasonics (like Mike, I have the KL, which has -knock wood- continued to function well though it is not new). If I had to choose one machine, ...
So damn hard deciding which tube preamp to buy!
@janpro- As a consumer of the 6h30 I have to agree that the current production tubes do not sound good. Those old DR Reflectors though, at least in my line stage, are as good as any tube I've heard in my system.
So damn hard deciding which tube preamp to buy!
It is very hard. Even before supply line problems ala Covid, it was hard to make comparisons "in store" without other variables-room, associated equipment in play, etc. Ideally, you’d want the ability to hear the unit in your system. I did have a ...
Turntable isolation platform Recommendations?
@Mijostyn- yeah, there’s something on the bottom, but I also was concerned that the metal top of the Minus K would have a sound and liked what the HRS brought to the package, having used it for some years before getting the Minus K. The one downsi...
Can the need for novelty and change be mitigated by rotation?
@mahgister: one of the difficulties of discussing system attributes, including identifying problems, trouble shooting and the like is that we aren’t in the room to hear it for ourselves and use our own intuition--we are at a remove, and as I think...
Can the need for novelty and change be mitigated by rotation?
@mahgister said: "[Y] ou forgot that acoustic and psycho-acoustics laws or principles and methods apply to any room and any system, these laws and methods are one of the main sources of optimization for a system/room/ears...I probably should have ...
Can the need for novelty and change be mitigated by rotation?
I think as room size varies, so do the possibilities of equipment variation while achieving "full" optimization in the room. The possibilities are potentially endless and we then can argue the merits of particular boxes, wires and source type and ...
Subwoofers with room correction built in?
@redwoodaudio said: "This is an interesting option from Underwood hifi by DSpeaker: 8033 SII subwoofer equalizer. Just for the subwoofer."That’s the unit I mentioned upthread. It is inexpensive, comes with a calibration mic, allows you to do repe...
Turntable isolation platform Recommendations?
@tomic601 - was just listening to an old Jackie Mason routine on jews and gentiles-- hilarious. As a member of the tribe, we typically had no mechanical or other manual labor type skills- we'd call a guy. Now that I'm in the post-career phase of m...
Turntable isolation platform Recommendations?
@syntax -thanks, noted. I remember the Kuzma Reference- had one, very easy to set up, sounded good, had a Triplanar on it at the time. @mijostyn- I had the HRS in NY and was able to isolate the high mass table through a combination of mass loading...
Turntable isolation platform Recommendations?
@syntax -Syn- did you ever use the Vibraplane with your Airline arm? My big concern was that when reinflated, it would require readjustment of the arm and that was what drove me away from the Vibraplane. Currently using the big MinusK bench top wi...
Best setting for Allnic H-7000 phono preamp with Hana Umami Red MC cartridge
I've had the H-3000 for some years and used various cartridges, including Airtights and Koetsu stones. The Airtight has a very low internal impedance, and sounded best loaded down. The Koetsus sounded better with a higher impedance setting. Given ...
Can the need for novelty and change be mitigated by rotation?
@tomic601 - you are always kind. Thank you. @douglas_schroeder - I love words. Using them in the right place is the challenge. You and I differ in so many ways based on what I've read of yours, but at bottom, we share the same passion and that is ...
Different subwoofer settings for different albums?
If I really get it as close as I can to reality on a wide range of records in the set-up process, I don’t mess with it. Sure, there will be variations in recordings, and if you are of a mind, you can buy a very high quality equalization (analog) u...
Can the need for novelty and change be mitigated by rotation?
I believe that "audio nervosa" is real and plagues hobbyists to the extent that it robs them of the ability to enjoy what the machinery they own can reproduce.I’m not following your peregrinations- every one of us who devotes time to consider, eva...
