Do You Tell Others How Much You Have Invested in Your System?
I once had a customer that put a $5k system in layaway.  Each payday he would pay a little more on it.  When the balance got down to about $2k he was there to pick it up, accompanied by the lady of the house.  I was instructed to let HIM do all th...
Do You Tell Others How Much You Have Invested in Your System?
@grislybutter Okay, fair question. I’m sticking my neck way out there and assume that there are audiophiles who have considerably more than $10k invested in their cables. I used that element as an example of a potential "shock factor" among the ...
Do You Tell Others How Much You Have Invested in Your System?
@erik_squires  I like your "logic" here.  And, my old cars that are worth considerably more than what I paid for them have cost me nothing.
What selections do you play when showing off your system to others?
I agree that we should invite them to bring their own stuff and/or select their own play queque.  It's the only way the music will get up close and personal to them. But. I have to shamelessly admit that I take their keys away so they can't leave...
Am I Getting Soft Here?
There’s something partibularly satisfying about making the "right" decisions that have stood the test of time. Each time we purchase something new, we also have to face the reality that it could have been a poor decision. Over time those decisions...
System that sounds so real it is easy to mistaken it is not live
Many years ago as an audio dealer peddling "descent stuff" , I attended a concert featuring the Polish national champion string quartet -- to "recalibrate" my ears.  It didn't take long to come to the realization that our equipment was embarrassin...

Large Advents (1974) woofer pops with deep bass.
@vcheney  Whatever elements that define the level of attachment you have to the Advents are valid ones, in my view.  Only you can place a value on them. You probably have an "unhealthy" woofer there.  I like @dekay process for troubleshooting th...
To couple, or not to couple, that is the question
@millercarbon  I couldn't have said it better myself. No, really, I couldn't have.   Thanks for the vote for intellectual humility.  I'm still trying to close the gaps in my knowledge base.  Its a work in progress.
Speaker upgrade
@grislybutter Excellent question. I retired in 2016 as a Klipsch dealer. About a year before my retirement, Klipsch was attaching a rubberized material to the front of the horn bodies in their Reference Series speakers. So, it looks like someone...
Speaker upgrade
@grislybutter  At the end of OPs opening comments was a request inviting comments and suggestions.  I was responding to that request. My "comment" was that IF the OP was leaning towards the Klipsch but wanted a little different sonic character, ...
Speaker upgrade
@doyle3433 The fact that you have Klipsch on your prefered list indicates to me (at least), that you value high efficiency and, perhaps, have some level emotiional attachment to the brand and/or vintage American nameplates. All valid reasons for...
Do YOU have a flat frequency response in your room?
I agree with the OP’s premise.  Plus or minus a couple of decibels.
The Killer Has Died
I can understand why many are conflicted here. Separating "the person" from their cultural contribution is not an easy task. We never feel quite right about being complicit about bad behaviors, regardless of an overwhelming number of positives rel...
Does Anyone Else Member the Golden Age of Audio Insults and Product Degradation?
@lou_setriodes  i have a greater appreciation now of what NEC brought to the world of high performance audio.   thanks again for sharing.
