Why do people selling on E Bay "USE" Audiogon? The quality of the people here on average is far superior to Ebay. Transactions go smoothly as the competence and honesty is typically unquestionable.I've done both for some time and it's no comparison. Audiogon members outclass Ebay members in so...
Running 2 different subs, and what size? With two dimensions being the same you definitely have a room mode issue. We all have them but when two dimensions are the same the problem doubles. This will make cancellations and peaks twice as bad as usual and the remedy is bass traps. Another...
Amp Suggestions for B&W 801 Series 2 Speakers I'd go with a Rotel RB 991 or RB 1080 but a better preamp than the Rotel. Maybe a Classe or Musical Fidelity. There's plenty to choose from.
Hafler dh200 mono amps Go to audiokarma.org. It's a forum dedicated to vintage electronics. All your questions will be answered there. I believe there's an article on how to adjust dc offset yourself too.
Best vintage receivers for FM? Older Kenwoods have super tuners, as above the x600 series but any of the late seventies will work well. The tuners in them are phenomenal by todays standards and upper line receivers have tuners besting low end separates in many cases.
Good speakers less efficient? Sensitivity is the proper term. There's no correlation between high sensitivity and low sensitivity as it relates to quality. Only the speaker designers idea of what works best. You'll also note most speakers are 86 to 92db sensitive. I'd guess tha...
Krell FPB300 - mechanical transformer noise. You may want to open it up and tighten the transformer. Don't overtighten but with it heating up and cooling off it may need to be cinched down again.
Bel canto DAC 2 A regular dac will not work with SACD or DVD audio discs. You have to use your analog outs.
Anyone get to hear the new Selah 3D RMAF? Selah has a forum at audiocircle.com. You may want to ask there.
Any one ever change a bass driver on a B&W Sig 800 Why would you want to change the driver? If the surround is old foam it may need new surrounds. Also you do NOT want to put in any other driver than what was made for that speaker. I won't go into here but you'd be sorry putting in any other driver...
Which tubes would you recommend? The Mullard 12at7wa also known as cv4024 is very popular. I believe I read Kevin Deal of Upscale Audio said it is the quietest and most robust in this family. It also has a nice tube sound that's not too tubey. My favorite. You can get NOS ones on ...
scratch on side of adcom best way to fix Black markers have worked fine for me. The side is not as bad as the face but the person above is right. The cost though is more than what the scratch will cost you on resale which isn't much.
Improvement? If you don't have room treatment and want an improvement this is the ticket. Room acoustics have a huge effect on the sound quality.Consider that the average room has peaks and dips of 15db! This is like letting a child adjust a graphic equalizer ...
Speaker power ratings vs. aplifier power ratings? I'll third that. You want plenty of power to avoid clipping if you listen loud at all. Ratings are very ambiguous and mean little as there's no standard.
Alephs with VMPS? The 100wpc Aleph amp would probably be adequate for 90% of listeners. I listen to my RM 40's at a loud level at times and know that 100wpc will run out of steam no matter how good it's current delivery is.I've not heard the Alephs on our speakers ... |
