New Fuse Thread . . .
Any subject needs discussion because no one person can see every possible angle. It's necessary to know everything possible to make sure what you know or think is correct. So everybody's opinions are necessary.Every time we all still end up at the...
New Fuse Thread . . .
"If engineers are so "all knowing," why don't they employ point to point wiring, black gate caps, Teflon caps in the signal path, OFC copper RCA and XLR jacks, OFC speaker lugs, high quality AC cords, NOS tubes and so on?"Maybe I'm wrong but I'd t...
New Fuse Thread . . .
I'm positive moving your head 1" will create more of a difference than changing fuses. Our power amps have had fuses in them for decades. Even the 10k power amps don't use anything but 85 cent fuses. I'm betting these engineers know what they're d...
Give up on Thiel 3.6 or try another amp again ?
You didn't mention room treatment. That can easily make or break a speaker no matter how much it costs. Different speakers will react differently in the same room. Remember the numerous reflections you hear, more than direct sound, was NOT on the ...
Determining reflection points
There's an Acoustic forum over at Audiocircle as I know you frequent there. There's several manufacturers that are very kind and helpful even if you don't buy their products.Don't forget bass traps. Doing your room acoustics will create a major up...
Is there such a thing as audiophile parametric eq?
The Behringer is a kick ass deal. You cannot hear any problem using the toslink to a dac. As a matter of fact I know a guy sold his dac and after he got the DEQ 2496.
Do you "treat" your speakers rubber surrounds?
I've seen too many speakers with rubber surrounds from the 70's that look and work fine, maybe better.
Speaker life expectancy: How long can you buy used
Speakers and their crossovers are good for decades. The foam surrounds on older speakers may rot after 10 or 12 years but that is easily replaced with modern foam which is good for 20 years or so.The crossover components should be replaced by thir...
your opinion on subwoofers in two channel
If you use subs the smartest thing you can do is make bass traps for each corner. This will help considerably. No modal ringing plus it flattens the response. Without them bass normally isn't nearly as musical in my experience. Electronic equaliza...
stereo amps and preamps for rent, what do you think
Now if you also sold used high end gear it may work. I keep thinking of asking Kurt at Echo HiFi here in Portland if he'd rent me a tube amp. He will give you whatever you want with a money back guarantee though so that may be better yet.Btw there...
Leaving DAC on all the time OK?
My Bel Canto dac doesn't even have an on/off switch. It's been going about 7 years now. It may be that your dac will last longer leaving it on all the time.Tubes are the only issue here.
Rug for room ascoustics
The larger and thicker the better. Reflections can really screw up the sound. If there's no other acoustic treatment in the room then thick and large is definitely the smartest move.
The Room
How about a combination of dsp and treatment? That's where I'm at these days and the sound is much better than anything I've ever heard.
The Room
Great post! My feelings exactly. Also I totally agree with Mr. Rives, although I guarantee he knows way more about it than me. What I like to tell people is that the room does more damage to the sound than a 6 year old adjusting a graphic equalize...
Looking for opinions on ADCOM GFP-715 preamp
I had an Adcom GFP 555II years ago and had been very pleased with the performance. I had an Adcom Dolby surround processor and amp that needed work. Sent it to Adcom and they fixed it for free. This was after it hadn't even been made anymore and t...
