pc to dac?
I'll vouch for the Berkeley DAC combined with the Lynx soundcard (which cost nearly as much as the Dell computer I am using as the server). I've had this set-up for several months now, and I no longer think about upgrading my digital source, which...
Review: Tube Research Labs Samson monoblock amps Amplifier
Bill,Sorry, somehow I missed your question. I have Piega P10s. I now have probably 450-500 hours on the Samsons, and they have reached another level just in the past twenty or so hours. Paul says they will improve even more at 750 hours or so, whi...
Troubleshooting help please
The gain in your preamp could be too high. I have had this happen a couple of times with different preamps. You may be able to get it adjusted, which is what I did.Good luck.
Who's your guitar daddy now?
Richard Thompson still does it for me.
Review: Tube Research Labs Samson monoblock amps Amplifier
I've had mine for four days and have about eighty hours on them. There is no doubt that they have already changed a good bit--the bass is getting deeper and tighter, the mid range more full bodied and the highs more extended. Already, the amps are...
Preamp Deal of the Century
Maril555,Come now, with all due respect you did not "simply tell your story." You questioned the integrity of Supratek owners whose experience differs from yours, and you made a snarky remark when members did not immediately post in support of you...
Preamp Deal of the Century
Maril555,I am sorry you had a bad experience with Supratek. Of course, we only have your side of things, but whatever the case, I hope it is resolved soon. You say it is "interesting" that you have received no responses to your criticism. For one t...
Musical full-range in the $3-4K range used?
I'll cast a vote for the Piega P10s. Beautiful in piano black, and they sound terrific. I drove several hours to audition a pair a few years ago, and within two hours of listening to all kinds of music, I was writing a check. Other gear has come a...

Berkeley Audio Design Alpha DAC Owners?
I have had the Berkeley for several months now, and it has effectively ended my search for ever better digital playback (after years of auditioning various highly regarded players). As far as redbook CDs, I have ripped most of mine to a computer I...
Christmas Jazz Anybody?
Ella Fitzgerald's "Swingin' Christmas." A staple at my house this time of year.Ho ho ho, Merry Christmas!
Tom Waits, Rain Dogs...
Yeah, I agree that Waits really is one of a kind. My first experience with his work was hearing "Heart Attack and Vine" in college. It blew me away, and I've been a big fan ever since. "Swordfishtrombones" is my personal favorite, although there a...
Tom Waits, Rain Dogs...
Marco,That's an excellent overview, I'd say. If you want to try some Springsteen that's a little closer to the darkness and depravity in Waits' music, give a listen to "Nebraska." It also is much starker musically, and closer to Waits in this way-...
Any insight with the Berkeley Alpha DAC ..??
Drubin,It is going swimmingly. I was really struggling with making a decision between the Berkeley/Computer-based music server, the Marantz SA-7S1, or the Abbingdon CD-77. I couldn't really arrange any auditions in my own system--which is really t...
