Giving Advice without recommending your own equipment
Oh, and I forgot to mention that you guys turned me on to CODA; otherwise I never would have known about the absolutely brilliant CODA S5.5 which now sits in my rack.....and for that I will be forever grateful. That amp is amazing, and in my mind ...
Giving Advice without recommending your own equipment
Carlsbad2, If someone is looking for a recommendation, of course it will be something excellent we own or want to own; or something we are aware of. To me that's the best kind of recommendation. I became aware of Aric Audio, Clayton Shaw, Anti-Ca...
For the love of...kits?
Falcon Acoustics, Linkwitz, and GR-Research kits is where i would start for speakers. CSS Audio would be worth a look
Better cd SQ
+1 for Denafrips Pontus II 12th DAC, about $1,800 at current exchange rates at Vinshine Audio....can be purchased new for a little over $1,800 new with free shipping. Hundreds of positive reviews, sounds more analog than most DACs, US based servic...
The new Coda S5.5 amplifier: It's a "Petite Beast"!
yyzsantabarbara, Give Doug Dale at CODA a call, I spoke to him a few times and he was helpful and great to speak with before I bought my CODA S5.5. I don't want to speak for him, but I think he'll suggest the #16 vs bridged S5.5s
Handling Heavy Amps
jfrmusic, I'm putting together some listening notes from the first few week with it, I'll be posting it for the other thread....but I'll repost it here as well. I highly recommend you check out the other thread started by Terry a couple of weeks ...
Handling Heavy Amps
I bought mine from Audion Archon, and Mike Kay could give you some thoughts as well on the CODA
Handling Heavy Amps
+++1 for the CODA S5.5, though I don't know how it would pair with the Harbeths. I would reach out to Doug Dale founder and CEO of CODA, he is really a great person to talk to....I spoke with him twice before buying the S5.5 and once afterwards. 4...
The new Coda S5.5 amplifier: It's a "Petite Beast"!
Teajay, I didn't have a chance to compare the Motherlode XL with the Backert, but the Backert Rhumba 1.4 vs the Rhumba Extreme 1.4.....that's why I suggested the demo between the two if near a dealer. The Rhumba Extreme 1.4 would have been my cho...

tmac1700, If you have the opportunity, I'd suggest you find a Backert dealer and audition both the Rhumba 1.4 and the Rhumba Extreme 1.4....I think you will find a pretty big difference. The Rhumba Extreme 1.4 is very close to the $13,000 flagshi...
The new Coda S5.5 amplifier: It's a "Petite Beast"!
christianb5s4, After much consideration I looked at several tube preamps: Backert Labs Rhumba Extreme 1.4, BAT VK-80, Rogue RP-9, used Audio Research REF 5SE, and Aric Audio Motherlode XL....and had previously looked at Atma-Sphere MP-3, LTA Mirc...

Markmuse, I never did see anywhere that you posted your opinions on the Caladans since you got them.....I'd love to hear from you on them. Send a private message if you don't want to hijack this thread. I loved the Backert Labs Rhythm 1.4s that I...
The new Coda S5.5 amplifier: It's a "Petite Beast"!
firefly627s, My only experience with Klipsch speakers is in other people's systems, and I've mostly been unimpressed.....but that may very well be the accompanying electronics. Twice they were being driven by a "mainstream" amp (can't remember bu...
The new Coda S5.5 amplifier: It's a "Petite Beast"!
firefly627s, The CODA S5.5 just arrived and installed today, I just turned it on all day and left it to settle in with no listening.....I'll do a little of that tomorrow. The Caladan's are only a little over a week old, but sounding great. I did ...
The new Coda S5.5 amplifier: It's a "Petite Beast"!
iovi66, Fair point about the input impedance on XLR. I've already had this conversation with Aric Kimball of Aric Audio, who is building a Motherlode XL preamp for me. He is modifying it to work with the low impedance of the CODA S5.5.....I belie...
