PC-Audio vs. High-end CD Player-GAME OVER Goatwuss, Empirical's solution is a good alternative, but there is still another one: Logitech/SlimDevices Transporter. It is wireless and has a wordclock input, so that you can connect it to a top-quality DAC like LessLoss with wordclock output a...
Boulder Modified Squeezebox...any experience? I own a Bolder-modded (digital and analog, power supply) SB2. I used it directly into a pair of Stello M200 amps for a couple of years and was satisfied. I recently bought a Monarchy Audio M24 and using both DAC and preamp it sounds distinctly bet...
Silverline 17.5 vs JM Labs Focal Utopia Be Most standmounts are designed to be placed away from boundaries, and I guess the Silverline's potent bass could be overwhelming close to the front wall, to say nothing of lack of depth. Casters are a better idea, IMHO.
Subwoofer for Tannoy Autograph Mini If you want augmentation only, any recent small REL would do nicely (Britannia 3, R-305); if you want to high-pass the Tannoys at a relatively high frequency, say 80Hz to 100Hz, you need a transparent active crossover such as the Hsu Research high...
Line Arrays - Competitive with best dynanics, ESL? Todd, Rick Craig (Selah Audio) will build any line array you want (including Incredarrays) and it would still be covered by your $15k budget. I also suggest you email him to discuss your needs at length. Since you'll be using a pair of high-qualit...
Squeeze Box Love'n'hate I have never had any big problems with my Bolder-modded SB2. It works perfectly with Vista and a Linksys WRG54G wireless router across the room.
Are dome midrange better than cone designs? I suggest you discuss this on Selah Audio's AudioCircle site. Rick Craig has a lot of experience with dome mids and is very approachable.
subs and monitors I agree with the REL recommendation and would also suggest an ACI Force XL.
Wow Windows Vista sounds sooo much better It all depends if a service pack is needed. I understand that Vista will mostly do regular updates. My Vista installation is solid, and has also benefited from Norton 360, some of the best software I have ever used. I can believe myself saying goo...
Wow Windows Vista sounds sooo much better I was pleasantly surprised with Vista's sound too, clear and dynamic unlike on XP. I have a Chaintech AV-710 and AKG headphones with Vista drivers. I tried the Envy beta drivers but couldn't get them to work.
Salk or Selah or ? Another great design from Selah, also sold in kit form, is the XT8 line array. This is a recent review in The Stereo Times.
How is Windows Vista? To be fair, the article was answered in a AVS Forum Vista thread about a month ago. This one is a more complete answer from Microsoft. Read both and derive your own conclusions.
Are Monitor/Subs More Room Flexible? Bdarcus, you're right. I meant "problems", sorry for the botched grammar.
Are Monitor/Subs More Room Flexible? Yes, more flexible than floorstanders for smaller rooms and, very important, really full range. Subwoofer integration has been practically non-existant for years with REL subs and especially now with the availability of digital crossover and/or ro...
any suggestions to get best audio from computer??? You can later modify the SB as little (Elpac or Marchand power supply) or as much (Bolder) as your budget allows; software room correction such as Inguz is the future of audio that just happens to be here and now, IMHO. |
