Why the obsession with the lowest octave I haven't read all the replies, but what you miss with the lowest octave is not only bass, but especially the ambiance cues of the original site that makes a recording sound "real" and complete. Then you can talk about soundstaging and imaging. As...
Amplifier heat depending on power cable? Many years ago I remember being very surprised when a dealer friend replaced the original Krell power cord with one of the first Shunyatas (maybe the Phyton) on the normally very hot Krell preamp/CD player (KPS-25, if I remember well). The cord co...
Geddes-Gedlee Abbey placement Since Geddes speakers are supposed to be used with subwoofers, the best way to deal with positioning is placing them for best imaging (out into the room).
Best Classical Stations on Internet Radio One of my favorites is Classic FM, broadcasting from London, UK. Sound is excellent, programming is middle of the road.
The best speaker you ever heard? A comparison at Audiologic between the JBL and the TAD would be at the top of my audio wishes.
The best speaker you ever heard? I agree with Audiologic. I listened to the big TADs at RMAF for the last two years and they are simply the best I have heard. Andrew Jones is a gentleman who will answer any question by giving you a whole lesson about the speaker.
best support shelf/isolation device for a rega p9? Has anybody tried replacing the stock feet with Stillpoints?
Best Fully Automatic TT Dual is again making turntables, check the fully automatic CS-455-1 here. I find the walnut plinth and gold accents beautiful. It should be at least as good as the old Duals.
Help on ancient Audionics CC-2s I fondly remember a pair of CC-2s I owned long time ago. The only fault I could find was some darkness to the sound that I am sure can be solved with good modern capacitors. I agree the amplifiers sounded best in mono, although if your speakers ha...
Vandersteen Model 7 in large room with power music I also think they sounded great at RMAF 2010, but they also showed a problem that Robert Harley (I think) reported in his review. They don't reproduce soundstage height. This problem I have also found with Vandersteen 5s and 5As. Robert Harley sai...
Esoteric MG-10 and MG-20 speakers I listened to the MG-20 at RMAF 2010 in Esoteric's room and it was fabulous, easily one of the best of the show. Clean, neutral, with great imaging and good soundstage height from such a short speaker. Impressive.
Anthem 225 Integrated amp driving Dynaudio 72SE's I use a 225 to drive my ACI Sapphire XLs. Previously I used the Monarchy Audio M24 DAC/preamp, which I now use only as DAC. The sound improved in every way, including soundstage height!
Active speakers. What to choose? Shadorne, the ATC SCM 50 Anniversary is a beautiful speaker. You are thinking of the regular model.
What is your dream turntable? Oracle Delphi Mk VI, a work of art in every way.
The best "imaging" speakers? Raidho Ayra C1 minimonitor. Expensive. |
