Is There An "Absolute" Best Cartridge?
of course there's not... unless we're all going to buy the same source components, same amplification components, same speakers, same cables and set up in the same room. Oh yeah, and I guess we'd have to clone Raul's auditory cortex and transplant...
Aquafina for record cleaning
I think that's the primary point, Wdi. From my understanding on what I've read about the use of Aquafina is that the levels of dissolved solids in it render it essentially "lab-grade" even though it's not marketed that way, obviously.I've been usi...
Aquafina for record cleaning
I prefer to use sextuple-ionized-distilled-fision-reactor-cooling-Mars-water myself. I'm just funny that way. The great thing is my records spontaneously sprout legs about 3/4 of the way through side two and put themselves up.
Excessive woofer movement with a VPI JMW 9 ?
I've owned both the KAB and DB Systems units in the past - both effective without any negative sonic impact to my ears.
Record Clamp for Entry-Level Music Hall TT
I don't think the Rega clamp comes with the felt washer that allows for the "reflex" action. The washer goes under the LP, btw.It seems like there was someone selling the Michell clps on eBay for less than $50.
Record Clamp for Entry-Level Music Hall TT
I would recommend the JA Michelle clamp - around $45 if memory serves. It's a lightweight reflex clamp, not a weight, and will work well to tame the warps you're talking about.
Electro Harmonix 6922 pre-amp tubes
What preamp? If it's the least be "hard" on the tubes, the JJ's will be a nightmare. I will agree that they are the best sounding current production, but they have a horrible failure rate if pushed in the slightest. The EH 6922's are my current pro...
Great phono pre
These are all way out of my league of experience, so I can't comment - but I would suggest you pop over to the analog forum instead of the amps/preamps forum for advice on these.
Choices: Nagaoka MP-50, MP-300, or Garrott P77i?
We're good - don't misunderstand me, I really appreciate what you're doing and there's a lot of good information in that thread. It just really bothers me when so many "audiophiles" think they've figured out the one and only trail to happiness and...
Choices: Nagaoka MP-50, MP-300, or Garrott P77i?
You're right, Bob, and I should have taken the cultural differences into consideration when responding.I've got no issue with someone saying what they own is the "best ever" as long as they're doing so in the context of THEIR goals. When they over...
Choices: Nagaoka MP-50, MP-300, or Garrott P77i?
I'm not angry.
Choices: Nagaoka MP-50, MP-300, or Garrott P77i?
I'm not ignorant, Raul - I've been playing this game for quite some time - probably longer than you. Have I focused my energy on collecting equipment and cartridges, no. I've focused my energy on the music I love.I will say, I had a healthy respec...
Choices: Nagaoka MP-50, MP-300, or Garrott P77i?
No offense Raul - but I've been following your thread over many months and your "best quality performance cartridge ever made!!!!!" seems to change every few weeks.I'll report back on the P77i once I get it.
Choices: Nagaoka MP-50, MP-300, or Garrott P77i?
Well, after much mental volleying, I placed an order for a P77i from Decibel Hi-Fi in Australia.Brian at Decible tells me it should be here in about a week! I'll report back as to if it was the right decision or not...Raul - I'm very very intrigue...
Choices: Nagaoka MP-50, MP-300, or Garrott P77i?
Hey Raul - Thanks for the suggestions. The Empire is a P-Mount cartridge; the Ortofon I've looked at before and my main concern with it is that it has a compliance of 40mm/µN (!!); the Arzden's are intriguing - I've never heard of them before.
