Phono stage with volume control?
Well below your price range, but it performs like a $3k stage! The PS Audio GCPH has a volume control and has a very smooth, wonderful sound to it. Fully balanced XLR output too.

Are you sure what you're seeing isn't paper? I've come across a handful of records over the years exactly like what you're describing that have "contaminated" vinyl with bits of cardboard and paper in the vinyl. I can only assume that they were pr...
Rega P3-24 Vs VPI Scout.
I'm, frankly, surprised at the responses here...If it's a choice between the Scout and ANY Rega for ROCK - what the original poster indicated was his genre of choice - there's no contest in my mind, get the Rega.Rega's are stellar with rock, it's ...

I asked Paul Frumkin this very question years ago when he was developing the Audio Intelligent enzyme solution. He did some research on it and told me essentially what others have posted here - it's not necessary and will break down the enzymes in...
Cart / Phono preamp for Technics SL-5200
I'm not familiar with the 5200 - who knows, perhaps it will wok great! Let us know once you get it up and running.
Steam Cleaning - RCM or not?
My steam-enhanced steps:1 - AudioQuest Carbon Fiber Brush to remove "big stuff"2 - Remove line of "big stuff" with Nagaoka Rolling 1523 - Apply Mobile Fidelity Enzyme Solution, work into grooves using Osage Listener Select Brush (best I've found)4...
Cart / Phono preamp for Technics SL-5200
Looks like it's a done deal - wish I could delete my prior post! I don't want to bias you in any way and you're committed now to it.I sincerely hope it works out for you and best of luck!

This is the strangest thread ever - and I mean that with no offense, but you're asking for advice and, I don't know - kind of doing your own thing anyway!Have you paid for the Grado Red, can you get out of it? It's going to hum like a SOB on your ...
Cart / Phono preamp for Technics SL-5200
Music Hall used to take the guts of the phono box with a few minor mods and market it as their phono pre. I find it hard to belive they're not still doing the same thing with their strong analog ties to Pro-Ject. Roy Hall is a master of cherry pic...

I'm just curious - why do you say you do not want a Cambridge Audio pre??? The 640p is, without a shimmer of a doubt, vastly superior to the NAD or Music Hall (a re-badged Pro-Ject phono-box, btw) offerings.

"Technics tables tend to be dark-sounding" This statement always astounds me... I've never heard it, even in the most resolving systems.Anyhow - as to the original poster, I would recommend a new AT-120/e and a used Cambridge Audio - preferably th...
Subwoofer meshes well with 2-channel?
I just introduced a Velodyne Optimum-8 (~$1,000 online) sub into my 2-channel system with phenomenal results! I've paired it with my NHT Classic Threes and was able to easily and quickly seamlessly integrate it in. I'm running the NHT's to their f...
Denon PMA-2000 IVR and Focus 140
I agree, I've owned amps costing 5x the PMA-2000IVR that I haven't enjoyed nearly as much. I've moved it into my main system at this point - it's just fantastic and the phono section outperforms any integrated phono section I've ever heard - Music...
What's wrong with Velodyne?
I hope nothing! I just ordered an Optimum-8 for use in a music only system.I'm planning on using it to augment a pair of NHT Classic Threes that are -3db @ 45hz. Currently I'm using a $300 Outlaw LFM-2 to do the same and am fairly happy with it bu...
Good Bookshelf Speakers B & W, Dynaudio, Paradigm
Provided your amp is up to it - why not consider the NHT Classic Threes? I love mine - but they do require a good bit of juice to run.
