Magico S5 Speaker - owners - heard them!
Magico pairs really well with VTL and VAC gear.  A pal of mine as the S5 MKii’s paired with an Odyssey amp.  When i I get them back from a review, I plan to take a pair of 845 Push Pull monos over to his place to see how they pair.  I am optimisti...
beryllium vs diamond
@tomcy6  - thank you for the civil response.  Something that seems to be lacking these days.  If I get a chance to do some relaxed listening I will and I am looking forward to a day when I can spend some time with the M series from Magico. What is...
Which new amp to get?
For the money, the Musical Fidelity M8s are pretty awesome.  The M8 500 is a great stereo amp and the M8 700s are really nice mono-blocks. $5000 for the M8-500 and $9000 for a pair of the M8-700s.  Smooth and detailed while being decidedly neutral...
beryllium vs diamond
@tomcy6 I have heard seven implementations of beryllium tweeters from four companies that are in VERY expensive speakers.  I tried three different tweeters myself from different manufacturers.  Unless paired with warm gear, I don’t like them.  Nor...
beryllium vs diamond
I recently tested a LOT of tweeters to decide what I wanted to include in my speakers.  Beryllium is bright and metallic.  Some brands do a better job of taming it than others but at a root level, I just couldn't love any of the ones I have heard....
Life after Rotel RX 1052
There are tons of good choices.  Couple things - the speakers you have are not the easiest to drive well. They have a minimum impedance of 3.45 ohms which means you do want an amp that is comfortably at 4 ohms. The 87.7dB SPL is efficient enough.E...
What dealer/distributor has influenced you most?
I won't mention the retailers or the salespeople but two in particular influenced me by the awful experiences I had.  These stories made me despise audio retailers and ultimately start my own speaker company. The first guy reminded me of comic-book...
Recommendation for detailed/analytical bookshelf speaker?
This is fascinating.  Your POV of buying a low end speaker and seeing if you like it may or may not work.  I have found several manufacturers, when they switch to higher end tweeters, the sound profile changes completely.  Additionally, I think yo...
what is more important ?
Like the guys said above....any system needs to start with your speakers.  Amplifier choice will flow from it and the overall coloration of speaker and amp together will help with choice of DAC, phono stage, cartridge, etc...Exactly how much you a...
Metal cabinet speakers
@smodtactical  I have not heard the Magico M2 but have hear lower end products in Magico's line.  I have supreme confidence that it is spectacular.  I saw that SEAS is offering Graphene coatings on their drivers.  I will make a point to listen to ...
Metal cabinet speakers
Concrete is interesting but you need to create a mold for a hollow concrete box where you are going to have metal lathe running through it.  Concrete won't hold together without it.   Not to mention that mounting hardware would be difficult. I dou...
Metal cabinet speakers
@Kenjit...I promise you the differences are not subtle.  One other note.  What will be completely game changing is when graphene comes available as a skin.  Stronger than Carbon Fiber, graphene layers over a nomex or aluminum honeycomb will be at ...
Suggestions on turntable to pair with Rogue RP-7 > Finale 300B SET monos > Heresy 3's
There are a ton of good tables and cartridges out there.  You will need a separate phono stage as the RP7 does not have one.  This is really broad.  You could spend $2K in line with your DAC or you could spend $20K.  What would a realistic budget ...
Will 2 watts monoblock 45 tube amp work for 90db speakers ?
90db speaker is not efficient enough.  I would be looking at speaker with an efficiency above 98dB.
Metal cabinet speakers
I have been on the fence about posting on this. These things get nasty at times and I lack the energy to argue with folks. I have done extensive testing on cabinet materials in the startup of my company. One straightforward approach was too build ...
