Why aren't new vacuum tubes as good as old ones?
Yes but current tube production is not critical to the communications business, like in the past. Tube makers could do better but where is the motivation.  Product longevity does not keep the line moving.
Why aren't new vacuum tubes as good as old ones?
Current tube production is aimed at a small niche market.  Before transistors, tubes ran our electronic world.  They were critical and manufacturer's had to make quality product for the military, government and..  We are the hobby market and reall...
The Absolute Sound vs Stereophile
I seem to always agree with Stevecham. "Fortunately, Audiogon, Steve Hoffman, Analog Planet, Vinyl Engine and others have replaced my magazine interest in written commentary, opinion, specs and general entertainment (when it's kept civil) about ...
Mcintosh C2600 preamp tube upgrade
I've also got a Mcintosh C2500 and rolled out the Mcintosh branded JJ's.  I am current using Genalex Gold Lion 12AX7, the gold pin ones.  Before getting the GL's I had Mullard 12AX7's reissues but not the 4004's, they sound just as good as the GL'...
Phono stage can minimize tics and pops on vinyl
When I got back to vinyl I started with prepackaged deal, TT, inexpensive phono stage and cartridge. Pretty easy to get started but not very rewarding. The surface noise almost made me sell the rig and stick with digital. Yet, I hung in there an...
VTL Siegfried Monoblock Power tube rolling- Calling all VTL owners
I've been using VTL amp's for 15 years+.  First 300 Deluxe MB then I upgraded to my current 450MKII.  Over the years I've used SED Svetlana Winged "C" 6550 and still have a set w/spares, Shuguang KT-88's and GL-KT-88's.  I currently use GL-KT-88, ...
Recommended cork platter for my SL 1200 GR Technics TT
Static electricity is an issue here in the dry desert.  I use a spray bottle of Demonized Water for cleaning LP's and it seems to keep the static in check.
Musical Fidelity A308 Int: is it worth a service call?
I had a Musical Fidelity DAC 21cr i think.  The right channel went out.  I called the authorized repair facility for North America, in Montreal, Canada.  The person I talked to did speak english very well and I don't speak french.  What little com...
New Vinyl
It's not the best out there but it also won't cost an arm and a leg either. The Allman Brothers Live at The Fillmore East on MFSL.  I've had issues with MFSL's product in the past, then when I think back to 1980, the quality of new vinyl is much b...
Please evaluate my system...
Another cartridge, not that the one you are using is bad but a different prospective is always entertaining.

Keep Adcom GFP-750 or Replace
I'd stay with the Adcom.  Over the years I've had a lot of pre-amps,  twice as many as any other component in my system.  The 750 is the only one of the bunch I regret selling.   I sold it when I switched to tubes.  The 750 was very benign, never ...
Audio-Technica ART 7
Good thread and very educational.  Well done folks. I've played in the "Gray Market" casino a few times over the years and it appears I've been lucky.
Adcom Gia 555ii amp and gfp 565 preamp
Do you know the environmental condition of the storage area?  If conditioned were 70 degrees +or - a bit. If so, I would do a few things first.  Open the cases and perform a visual inspection of each device.   If the capacitors are swollen and lea...
We give up perspective to avoid tone controls
My pre-has electronic tone controls but I've not used them.  Yet, my computer based music server playback software has an EQ and I have used it on a few albums that have great music but were poorly engineered/mix.   I look at the subject this way....
