Disappointing On Mcintosh......help
@stereo5 agree 100 percent.
Matching tubes
I don't used matched power tubes.  My two power amps use 8 KT-88's each. When a tube goes, It's replaced.  I've been doing it that way for years.
Disappointing On Mcintosh......help
I mainly look at used gear. I owned the TL-2.5 for a few years.  It was just OK or maybe I just wanted a more of a tube sound.  My unit has 12AT7 and 12AU7 tubes. Some of the VTL 2.5's had a different tube complement.  I heard the VTL TL-5.5 in a ...
Disappointing On Mcintosh......help
@durkn The Mcintosh C2500 is a perfect match with my VTL 450MKII amps.  The C2500 beat out ARC and VTL for a place on my rack. It came down to preferred house sound, options and bang for buck value.  One of the deciding factors was the two Phono s...
Higher End DACs
I went the Computer & DAC route. My current DAC is an Esoteric D-7 and was purchased as a Demo from Paragon Sight & Sound on this site. The Esoteric 07 was discontinued and replaced with the newer Esoteric 07X. The simple fact is it w...
Disappointing On Mcintosh......help
I only have a C2500 pre-amp.   It's sounded slightly muddy with stock McIntosh branded JJ tubes when I fired it up for the first time.  I put in Gold Lion 12AX7's solved my issues.
Turntable got absolutely crushed by CD
OP, I heard it once.   The CD was an XRCD, Brothers in Arms.
MOBILE FIDELITY ONE STEP VINYL
What a spends person on records in there business. Heck, people pay thousands for a rare bottle of wine and in the end it still comes out as piss.
Cartridge misadventures
Been there, done that.  My incident helped convinced me to use TT's with removal headshells.  FYI: I snapped the cantilever off a recent SS Ruby re-tip of a very special P-Mount cartridhe. It was a  Technics EPS-310MC moving-coil cartridge.
Considering going back to Solid State
Good Luck, I tried going back to Solid State twice.
Tubes
Great reply zkidd.  I have 25 tubes in my system and none are NOS and for the same reason as zkidd,  performance vs. cost, they are way over priced these day, well at least for me. I also replace tubes as needed.
Has anyone tried Brass cartridge mounting screws?
Yes, they are cute!  I have no idea where or when I got them.  I just use what I got.
Vintage Kinergetics gear repair by someone that knows what they are doing?
Back in the day, I visited Kinergetics Research factory.  There primary business at the time, late 80's was building deep water Diving Bells.  Tony DiChiro was the chief designer on the electronics side of the business.  In the early 90's Kinerget...
Esoteric A100 Service Nightmare
KOW, It appears I've been lucky with my two Esoteric purchases. I received outstanding customer service when my DV-50 needed repair, once under warranty and another time well outside of the warranty period. Both repairs only cost shipping from Nev...
First Moving Coil (MC) Cartridge Acquisition
I have a fairly new Hana EL and to me it sounds very traditional, smooth and warm with detailed bass.   I use it with a Jelco 750 9" arm.  Of the three old TT's I have connected, it's getting 50% of the play time these day.  I also use an AT-33PTG...
