Amp vs preamp question The Thiel 3.7's drop to 2.8 Ohms, very few tube amps are at their most comfortable operating into such a load.
Power amp Suggestions for Dunlavy SC-IV I've heard Dunlavy SC-IV's run with some fairly high powered Pass Aleph mono's and was underwhelmed. I heard those very same speakers sound better with some B&K M200's, different Pre though. Though the Dunlavy's are indeed efficient, I was ama...
Holographic imaging I have noticed that sometimes when I increase the volume level, besides the sound getting louder, the soundstage seems to get bigger. Despite what might appear to be an obvious deduction, I don't necessarily get the impression that I am actually c...
Holographic imaging If these "doppler" errors are indeed there, and are "microscopic" how does one determine where they occur, read them at each occuring stage, and how is their (I'm assuming) delicate effect, effectively corrected and how is that delicate(?) correct...
Holographic imaging I haven't heard the H-Cat gear. I am dubious of these claims. How does one determine just where in the circuit these errors occur? Does the circuit allow for the approporiate correction to be applied in each instance of error, and is that necessar...
Power amp Suggestions for Dunlavy SC-IV John Dunlavy liked: Rowland, Edge and Spectron.
Amp vs preamp question I have to agree with Mapman here. Especially with Thiel's. Thiel's are more demanding of appropriate, quality amplification than most speakers. BTW, I've been using Thiels for 20 years.
Amp and preamp Not neccessarily, and no.
Holographic imaging Though it might be an anthema to those who fancy omni-directional (or those trying to aproximate that goal) speakers, I can't help but wonder what omni's might sound like in a heavily treated room that would mitigate the surrounding reflections.
Thoughts on Threshold Forte Model 3 Nelson Pass The Forte F-44 is a heck of nice remote pre.
Thoughts on Threshold Forte Model 3 Nelson Pass Heiney, thank you! You are correct, my bad. Though I think it was the model 4's, 5's, 6's and 7's that used the IGBT's, and I believe that Rene Besne's input was mostly limited to the cosmetics. It is interesting that the early Pass designed Forte...
Powerful Tube Amp for SF Strads? Wolcott?
Sticking with one brand IMHO, sticking with one brand has the advantage of providing a base line. After that, you will have a clearer understanding of what cables (quite possibly different) work best between different components. Though it can be challenging to actually ...
Tube vs SS Amp with a All Tube Preamp I respectfuly suggest you search the archives.
Mono Tuner output into Stereo Input Depending on the out-put of the tuner and the in-put of your pre, it should work fine. Of course, you'll have two channels of mono, not true stereo. |
