Large Object Between Mini Monitors on Stands...
I would imagine a horizontal large object like a drafting table would be less objectionable than a vertical large object like a deep cabinet between speakers.
Power output of tube amps compared to solid states
Shadorne, well done. The link Atamasphere provided is really worth a look.
Thiel CS3.6
Jab, Thiel seems to disagree with you:http://www.thielaudio.com/THIEL_Site05/PDF_files/PDF_tech_papers/techpaper_cs6.pdf
Power output of tube amps compared to solid states
Koegs, actually I was referring to more recent post by Atmasphere, where he offered this link:http://paulspeltz.com/tomcik/index.htmlI don't believe there is any bias in this report. It is interesting that in the link Atmasphere offers, the writer ...
Power output of tube amps compared to solid states
Duke, thanks, that all appears to make sense to me. I do have further questions, but I believe they are not germane to this thread.
Pass Labs A/B amps vs Class A amp and Actual Power
Brian, good question. There have been discussions here as to whether there is in fact such a thing as Class A/AB or for that matter even Class AB. Some here claim that there is either only Class A or Class B, but not combinations there in. It migh...
Pass Labs A/B amps vs Class A amp and Actual Power
Rtn1, I don't have access to those measurements. Am I correct in assuming that those measurements are suggesting 150 Watts per channel into 8 Ohms and 200 watts per channel into 4 Ohms? Do those measurements specify that the first 60 Watts into 4 ...
Power output of tube amps compared to solid states
Duke, perhaps a bit off topic, but in a previous thread Atmasphere offered a link to a 55 year old paper by a speaker manufacturer's engineer that within the context of that paper, regularly suggests the use of feedback to provide appropriate crit...
Power output of tube amps compared to solid states
Atamasphere, again I think your argument is sound, but, once again, it's interesting that for example, that J. Gordon Holt found the 160 WPC ss Threshold SA 1's to have better bass than the 225 WPC tube VTL 225's on his Sound Labs.
Tube Preamp, Amp or Int for holographic imaging?
Anothr nod to Tvad on this one.
Pass Labs A/B amps vs Class A amp and Actual Power
Rtn1, I was merely asking a question, and based upon Nelson Pass's (albeit different) previous Class A designs, the question was appropriate. The Pass web site does list the XA 100.5 as "Leaves Class A at pk Watts: 200". I'm assuming pk means peak...
Vandersteen 2ce with Marantz MA 500 monoblocks
They are frequently on sale here, as they were hugely popular and a lot were sold. McCormack has offered a steady stream of upgrade options, so don't be surprised by varying asking prices. FYI, the input impedance varies quite a bit on various mod...
Pass Labs A/B amps vs Class A amp and Actual Power
All the more reason to make sure your buying what your expecting. Mind you, the same might be true re: doubling down power/halving Class A bias for the amount of Class A bias in the Class A/AB amps.
Pass Labs A/B amps vs Class A amp and Actual Power
Stickman, many if not most amps that are touted as doubling down Class A amps actually halve their Class A out-put as they do so. Including Nelson Pass' previous Threshold designs:http://www.stereophile.com/solidpoweramps/1290thresh/index1.html
Power output of tube amps compared to solid states
Atmasphere, I do believe your argument has merit. It's just interesting that a couple of those ESL designers also designed ss amps to be used with them. Nelson Pass used ESL's amongst others when developing the Threshold amps. J. Gordon Holt, foun...
