Inactive audio members that you miss
I miss some those already mentioned more, but, Carl used to really stir the pot around here.
Thiel CS3.6
I hope the OP won't mind this?Newbee, I haven't compared non-optical bias with an optical bias units. I've been told by someone I trust in these matters that the optical-bias helped a great deal with maintaining the bias and even more with overall...
Thiel CS3.6
Newbee, you should have heard those Thiels with a bigger Threshold! What tube pre did you use with the Threshold/Thiels?
Preamp for Thiel 1.6's
FWIW, despite lost of dealers pushing them, I've never cared for the Rotels with Thiels. IMHO, there are much better choices for not too much more money. YMMV. I do think most speakers and the especially Thiels benefit from a quality amplifier mor...
Cheap Tweak..Mass Loading
The ones without lead.
Power output of tube amps compared to solid states
There are many here much more qualified than I am to answer these questions, but, it would appear to me that it really wouldn't be an issue with preamp. I would think most pre-amps have more than enough steady state power necessary to drive a powe...
Power output of tube amps compared to solid states
Kirkus, Thanks! Your explanation of longer duration of headroom makes a lot more sense to my ignorant understanding of things than any of the other explanations offered so far. I hate to use "my" current amplifier as a point of contention, but, my...
Power output of tube amps compared to solid states
Atmasphere, I wasn't talking about those kind of speakers. I was talking about horns and others that are supposed to be tube friendly.
Power output of tube amps compared to solid states
Atmasphere, I'm not sure that many speakers actually necessitate that the partnering amplifier use feedback. You say that the use of negative feedback contributes to the amp sounding "shouty". I find that ironic, in that "shouty" attribute is one ...
Power output of tube amps compared to solid states
A bit off topic here, but, if a speaker manufacturer needs to veer from the criterion you use to describe a "decent speaker design" and needs use something other than a higher impedance amp to achieve better results, what's the harm?
Power output of tube amps compared to solid states
Atmasphere and Duke too, I think it's us (well at least I can speak for myself) that should be thanking you. Not many other manufacturers have been nearly as generous with their knowledge and expertise. It's encouraging to see such apparent enthus...
How to tame brightness
Nisna, folded tissue tapped to the baffle sometimes works.
budget towers? $500/pair
I agree with Tompoodie. Did I just type that?:-)
How to tame brightness
Get an equalizer.
Power output of tube amps compared to solid states
Shadorne, a long time ago I remember reading(though for the life of me, I can't remember where or when), that one shouldn't use a DC coupled amp with ported speakers. I am under the impression that DC coupled amps are noted for their tight bass re...
