Upgrade path Keep in mind the value of your current Dunlavys.Others might disagree with your power observations with Dunlavys, but you might(!) be on to something. I had a friend go from two 200 watt mono amps to four identical factory matched of the same amps...
Upgrade path If if you have the room: bigger Dunlavys,...or sub-woofers.
Thiel Owners Steve, I'm glad your happy with that sound.
Thiel Owners I'd jump on those 5's as well, except for the cost of appropriate amplification.
B&K ST-140 vs ex-442 sound charactor I've only heard the Zu's briefly at shows, so I can't comment on their particular considerations. While the ST 140 is lovely amp for it's price and limitations, both the B&K EX442 and the c-j MF 80 share a similar sonic character, but are bet...
B&K ST-140 vs ex-442 sound charactor I've had the B&K ST 140, the B&K M200's and the c-j MF 80 (amongst others) in my system. It really depends on your speakers, room, preferences, etc. BTW, $700 for the MF 80 is no bargain.
B&K ST-140 vs ex-442 sound charactor Besides the obvious power increase ,the EX442 has much more current capability. The ST 140 really doesn't like loads below 4 Ohms, probably not an issue with your current speakers.
Anyone familiar with Buggtussel Amygdala speakers and what their worth? The Buggtussel's were reputed to be outstanding rock n' roll speakers, garnering compliments from some rock stars.
Speaker Hiss with Krell Amp I would find that unacceptable. This awkward, as I've been pushing a Krell audition for your CS 5's for some time. Perhaps, Al is right. He usually is. IME, most Krells seem to work best when used in balanced configuration, though I can't really c...
Thiel Owners ^non-specific specifications:-).
Vintage Krell Amp... Which would you choose? Dsper, with most any other speaker, the 200S would be plenty enough. With your Thiel CS5's with all those drivers, huge cross-over and most demanding load, it's good enough, but if budget permits, those demanding speakers could benefit with even ...
Hegel Amps with Thiels ^I can very well understand how you might feel about the above pairings. But, the Vandy's though sharing similar design paramters, are voiced differently than the Thiels, and the c-j's run in the same direction as the Vandys. Some of the McCormack...
The Golden age Audiolabyrinth, I too lament the direction you've outlined. The founders of the above mentioned companies have moved on, leaving the direction of their companies to profiteers'. Like many things in life, fashion is cyclical. I imagine that when th...
Hegel Amps with Thiels ^IMHO, the McCormack's are very nice amps, with tight rhythmic bass, and smooth liquid treble, unfortunately their somewhat forward nature can make them a bit shouty with Thiels. A lovely and near perfect match with Vandersteens.
Thiel Owners Curious that they list the doubling down 4 Ohm rating of their A60 amp (250/500 both channels driven) but not their A34.2. If it's not specified, I'd be hesitant to assume anything. Unless the amp has lots of power to spare, if it doesn't double d... |
