Ohm Walsh speakers in the 21st century
Walsh 4 owner here... since 1986!Yes there has been 3 generations since mine but I believe that the #1 change is the vent (which is at the bottom of the cabinet venting into the floor in my model) now vents into a wood base which is also the cabin...
Hana EL upgrade to ML ?
Let us know if you hear a 'major difference' or just a minor one
New speakers dilemma for vinyls... Heeelp! :)))
The original OHM F from the 70's was omnidirectional.Since the early 80's till current the Ohm Walsh series speakers, they have been quasi omnidirectional by that I mean the the sound propagating from the rear of the speaker is around 20 db less t...

Yes, @adversam I play lots of LP’s via my Heybrook TT2/LVX tonearm and OC-9ML cartridge... just bought an AT33/PTGII.. not mounted yet.Nirvana’s ’Unplugged in New York’ is too unbelievable to describe, the sound-stage, depth and bass guitar are so...
New speakers dilemma for vinyls... Heeelp! :)))
Mine are in the basement on 5" of concrete covered also with dense carpet and thick under-pad.Years ago I experimented by putting the speakers on 16"X16" acrylic pads, augmented the bass considerably but I didn't think the overall sound was as mus...

Ciao @adversam, as mapman said they're a fairly easy load on the amplifier; also they're nominally 6 ohm, my 37 year old model is less efficient then the current models but they do like high current amps.I'm using a Nakamichi PA-7A amp (225 watts ...

@adversam, Reality is that it's hard to audition speakers in a showroom and extrapolate from that experience what they will sound like in your listening room.  Even more so 'se ti piace basso profondo'.So do your research carefully for that big ro...
Rega Planar 3: Is the Exact a significant upgrade from the Elys 2?
At the end of April I bought a new Planar 3 and Ania cart.  The combo is a good match, however it's not any better than my Heybrook TT2 w/OC-9ML so I sold it. The Ania performed exceptionally well on classical music but do I think it's worth the C...
What are the current useless terms in this "audio world"

Cartridges for Rega Tables
The Regas are 14 mm body height and I have no idea what they measure to the stylus tip but I imagine they would come in at + 1 or 2 mm more.
Cartridges for Rega Tables
LOMC Dynavectors appear to be between 15.9 mm and 18.1 mm in height depending on the model.
Cartridges for Rega Tables
The Hana EH, EL SH, SL are all 15 mm high so they probably would not require shims on the Rega; of course, no 3 point mounting system and keep in mind that the L models require 400+  ohm loading.
Are the new Ohm Walsh speakers Audiophile quality?
I've been consulting with John Strohbeen since the late 80's regarding my Walsh 4's.  One thing I love about the man is his direct answers to direct questions; no hesitation, no BS, just a straight answer. Here's a sample of some of his answers ov...
Don't get it, why anyone would ask others "what sounds best"?
Very dangerous question... 'what sound best'.My 75 year old sister in law has been listening to AM radio since she was born and to her that is the benchmark of sound.  Anything over 5 kHz is verboten.Oh yes, she prefers the bass turned up quite a ...
What’s a mistake you made by being impulsive?
In mid April I purchased a Rega Planar 3 w/Ania MC cart to replace my Heybrook TT2/LVX/OC-9ML combo.  While I was breaking in the Rega I serviced the Heybrook myself in order to sell it.  After setting everything back to spec I had a listen and gu...
