Jay’s Audio DAC Yes, given that the Jay's + Denafrips combo was previously being touted, the big question is how it compares to Denafrips. Which Denafrips model is it closest to in price?
To Bi Wire or not to Bi Wire that is the question? Not a fair comparison. To bi-wire, you're using twice the length of cable. Compare better quality single wire+jumpers that costs the same as the doubled-up bi-wire cable, then decide.
Magico A3 vs. Joseph Audio Perspective vs. Spendor D9 Any reason the ProAc D48's didn't make your list? They are often listed as the D9's close rival.Thank being said, I auditioned the D7's (not the 9's) against Spendor Classic 100 (effectively, mk III of the SP100) this summer, and preferred the 10...

Classical Music for Aficionados Bought a bunch of CDs recently, many of them based on recommendations from this thread.First one to arrive is Igor Levit, 2CDs, late piano sonatas.Recording: piano image is very present, well fleshed out, more neutral than warm in tonality. Sound...
Reference Recordings Have you tried this one?https://referencerecordings.com/recording/arnold-overtures-london-philharmonic/ It always sounded pretty good to me. Must refresh memory.
Classical Music for Aficionados @newbee Just enjoyed a very spirited performance of the Schumann PC courtesy of Stephen Bishop and Colin Davis. Looking on Amazon, I see there are highly touted versions available from both Lupu and Perahia, two of my absolute favs. This will be...
Anyone with experience with the effectiveness of the AVA HUMDINGER? @helomech Ironically enough, a CMII. I ended up trying 5 different AC wiring "solutions" and 8 or 9 after-market products, and nothing worked. Inherent in that model, and/or my example of that model. BTW, this was fairly low-level hum, but it c...

Classical Music for Aficionados Changed to Biret/Naxos for PC2, nice, more distant perspective.I think I have Arrau also on a budget reissue. Must check. The way the piano floats over the orchestral accompaniment in the slow movement is delectable.
Balanced (XLR) CD player recommendations I doubt you'll find a true balanced design at your price point unless it's pretty long in the tooth, at which point some of the mechanical parts may become a bit dodgey.
Classical Music for Aficionados Revisiting Chopin/Zimerman/Giulini on DGG. A remarkably engineered recording. If the soundstage isn't well outside your speakers, something is wrong. Depth is fine but not commensurate with width. Fine performance, not quite sure about the tre...
Valvet E2. 300B killer? Sugden perhaps.
Upgrading B&W 685 S1 to ? Fritz Carrera 3 BE fit the bill. Mention the $ special he was offering after CAF.
PMC vs. Salk Sound Speakers. Which is better? I currently own PMCs, and went back several times during recent CAF to hear the Salk speakers. The Song3s, two versions, were very good. Very competitive with the PMCs at a very competitive price. There might be other models in the Salk line-up... |
