Fyne Audio - Anyone heard lf it?
Yes, some people from Tannoy split off and created it in Scotland somewhere, with local government development support, on the occasion of one of the times that Tannoy changed hands due to corporate/conglomerate horse-trading.
Mixing balanced and unbalanced inputs/outputs on Ayre preamp - amateur question!
So long as the preamp has RCA-style outputs, you’ll be fine.
Down to 2 speakers & I can't decide, ProAc D48R vs Spendor D9
@seadog77 Do you have access to the Twenty series?  I haven't heard the Twenty5's, but reviews suggest that PMC moved them closer to the Fact series, which is definitely more "neutral".  My Twenty.24's are about "just right" on treble, forgiving ...

I think the cure might be to leave Audiogon for a while.  The more I'm on here, the more I'm thinking about the sonic presentation.  Sitting here right now with Sterndale Bennett Piano Concerto #1 (Lyrita), telling myself to focus on the music (ha...
Down to 2 speakers & I can't decide, ProAc D48R vs Spendor D9
Those two models are designed to compete directly with each other, from companies that compete with each other.  Think Honda Accord vs. Toyota Camry.  D9/D48, D7/D30.  Likewise, Spendor's Classic line is in a similar competitive pairing with Harbe...
Bass audition for your system....
@n80 Pictures at an Exhibition was originally composed for piano.  It was subsequently orchestrated for full orchestra.  The link is to an organ adaptation--I presume based mainly on the piano original.  There are notes there that will make your b...
Bass audition for your system....
Years ago, the go-to CD was this organ recording.https://www.amazon.com/Mussorgsky-Pictures-Exhibition-Stravinsky-Petrouchka/dp/B000001Q80 Try it!  It'll give your woofers a workout.
Does anyone care to ask an amplifier designer a technical question? My door is open.
@testpilot  Take a look at the Isotek Synchro EVO3.

If you're in the mood for a really stirring, Liszt-ian piano concerto, try Henselt on Hyperion.  Hamelin is also one of my favorite pianists.
Speakers with the most detailed midrange? (non-ESL/planar)
@goofyfoot  Yes.  The Radial midrange is truly excellent.
Am I missing something here?
One man's neutrality is another man's thinness.
Am I missing something here?
Right now many speaker designers are on a trend toward what is typically called "neutrality" and "accuracy".  I think that's simply what you are hearing--or not hearing.  These goals spill over into the design of other equipment too.  Tube preamps...
Speakers for a small room
There's another ongoing thread right now on a very similar topic.  Here:https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/big-speakers-in-small-room-at-moderate-volume-levels/post?highlight=gik&postid=1669544#1669544
Hegel Mohican vs. Bryston BCD-3
@jafant https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/new-or-old-cd-player/post?highlight=opera%2Bconsonance%2Bhegel&postid=1542969#1542969 After it was revealed that the Mohican was based so closely on the much older Opera model, it made my choice e...
PMC Speakers
It all depends on your mix of priorities.  Imaging and soundstaging are important to me.  I also happen to like speakers that are a little more laid back, in the sense that the soundstage starts at or behind the plane of the drivers and extends ba...
