A move from Harbeth to... Wilson?
The few times I've listened to Vandersteens, they struck me as having a rather "forward" presentation.  By this I'm not referring to tonal balance, which was fine, but rather to where the plane of the sound stage started, which was well in front o...
Why is black so popular for components?
I miss the old battleship-grey NAD pieces.I don't know why more manufacturers didn't adopt a similar color.
As Good as a Mohican... But Used.
It all depends on what you mean by "good".It should be easy to pick up a used Marantz Ruby SACD for under 3K, and they're very good.

Here's an instrumentalist whom I hadn't heard before: Hille Perl.  To me she sounds like stiff competition to Jordi Savall et al. on the viola da gamba.  The Schenck CD is excellent, with superb sound and impassioned playing. I have immediately or...

Because I rank it close up there with the Harbeths and Spendors recommended by others, I'm going to mention the Vienna Acoustics Liszt again.  You can get exceptional bargains on used examples if you keep your eyes open.
Seriously? Why Buy ARC Ref 6SE? seems Benchmark LA4 is a better choice.
Anyone read the Jason Serinus review of the ARC preamp in Stereophile?  The Benchmark got a brief comparative listen and, err, didn't come off too well.(Full disclosure: of Stereophile's reviewers, JS gets on my nerves a great deal more than anyon...

I auditioned several models of Daedalus before getting Harbeths.  The Daedali (?) are very good, very even-handed, so to say, but none of them produced the 40.2 magic.
Musical fidelity M6SI problem.
How hot does yours run?  I heard they're heavily biased into Class A.
What power amp or integrated amp are you using with your Harbeth speakers
This is the guy who has his 40.2's in a small room.https://www.whatsbestforum.com/threads/benchmark-ahb2-amplifier.25366/ He's using bridged Benchmarks.  380W should do the trick!
The secret to a great amplifier...
Right.  High-end boutique brands never rebadge cheap stuff from China.(Just to be sure, before buying that next power cord, go a quick visual search of Amazon and AliExpress.  You might be surprised.)
Do active speakers interest you? Also, let's talk directivity
Have you looked at/heard Dutch & Dutch speakers?  They're a good example of price/performance as your competition.

Absolutely.  Harbeth 40.1's as already suggested, or alternatively Vienna Acoustics Liszt (used).  Both will perform exactly as you describe.
The secret to a great amplifier...
Lightly coat both ends of the fuse with CBD.

Listening to Kondrashin's Dvorak 9 for a first time on my improved system, and what an exciting recording it is.  Superb dynamics!  The tympani strokes in the first movement made me jump. I would never have guessed the recording's age. All cobwebs...
