Surge protectors and power conditioners - Good idea or bad?
Reportedly, 80% of all surges/transients in a home's electrical system are generated by appliances in the home. Anything with a motor is suspect. I believe that continuous "hits" with surges and transients will shorten the life of the equipment....
What do we hear when we change the direction of a wire?
Wire directionality in an alternating current (AC) application? How interesting...
KEF LS50 Metas paired with Marantz PM7000 (not PM7000N)?
@jwhite - The Stereophile review of the Kef LS50 Meta may be of some interest to you. In the Measurements section, the reviewer stated  "The partnering amplifier needs to be comfortable driving 4 ohms."https://www.stereophile.com/content/kef-ls50-...
KEF LS50 Metas paired with Marantz PM7000 (not PM7000N)?
"....Marantz states for this amp (95W per channel) not to go with speakers with nominal impedances below 8ohms...."I would heed Marantz's advice. The impedance of the LS50 Metas is not quite as bad (low) as your Baby Grands but it's close. I perso...
Powered Subwoofer connected to integrated amp's speaker outs?
The Rel T/7i has a relatively high input impedance so it poses no problem whatsoever. I have an integrated driving Kef LS50s and a Rel T/5i connected to the integrated outputs using the high-level Speakon connector.
Speaker Spike Philosophy
clearthinker279 posts03-28-2021 2:05am"...A spring so unstiff that it is compressed to half its free length by the mass of the speaker is certainly going oscillate all day long in response to the cone/membrane movements in the speaker and the ai...
Anyone Successfully Go from Floor Standers to Bookshelf Monitors w/ Subs?
When I moved some years ago, I ended up with a smaller listening space. Found that my Vandersteen 2CEs just didn't work well in close quarters. They need room to breathe and that's something I didn't have. Ended up replacing them with Kef LS50s an...
Most rooms don’t need acoustical treatment.
I have a small listening space that also doubles as a computer work station. The room is quite "lively" with no soft furnishings. I lived with it that way for years before deciding that something had to be done. Found that several large glass-cove...

REL T-ZERO MK3...nizzzze
Same improvements noticed when I added a Rel T/5i to augment Kef LS50s. I followed Rel’s set-up recommendations and used speaker-level connection (Speakon) and corner placement. 1/3 octave test tones (CD) and SPL meter helped dial everything in..
Nearfield passive speaker recommendations please (ATC SCM11 vs KEF LS50 meta)
The Kef LS50 Meta, with it's coincident/coaxial driver design, provides a single point source of sound and is excellent in near-field applications.
to bi-wire or not?
For maximum benefits, separate cables should be used for bi-wiring, one for bass and one for midrange/tweeter. Also, the two cables should be separated 3-4 inches to minimize cable interaction. For my Vandersteen 2CEs. I used Kimber 8TC for bass a...
The longest you have owned any gear?
Have had a Magnum Dynalab FT-101A FM tuner for 30 years and it has never failed once. Sent it back to MD for upgrading last year. Next oldest is a Bryston B60R Integrated Amp that has served me well for 20 years. It did require servicing at 19 yea...
My list of tweaks and the verdict
sokogear319 posts02-15-2021 8:09pm"...I believe it cleans up the power as the current goes from the wall (or a power conditioner, power strip, etc.) to the component, so the longer the cable, the more it conditions the current..."Theoretically, ...
My list of tweaks and the verdict
