Headphone amps HD what are the choices?
The cost for replacement tubes will vary, depending on what you get. I think I paid about $75 for my tubes on eBay, although you can spend less or more than that. One thing about the MG Head -- if you're looking at having multiple sources, be aware...
Getting married, and I need to redo system.. ?'s..
Jmcgrogan2 --To answer your questions, my wife and I have been married for about five years. We don't, however, have any kids -- for various medical reasons, neither one of us can safely reproduce, and we don't have any particular desire to do so ...
I need 'decent' speakers for my cheap system
I'm using NHT speakers with Rotel power amps, and I like the combo a lot. For around $1000, you should be able to pick up a used pair of 2.9s -- Stereophile Class B, which should last you beyond that Rotel as long as you avoid amps that are on the...
Headphone amps HD what are the choices?
Easy -- Antique Sound Labs MG Head OTL. Tubes, great sound, perfect match for HD600s, and $329 new from HeadRoom (www.headphone.com).You WILL want to replace the stock tubes, though. I've gone with NOS Sylvania black plate for power tubes, and NOS...

Charles --I do wish you the best of luck, and hope that you have gotten a "good one."I meant to respond to some of the other posts that have appeared in this thread, as I've been following it with some curiosity, but now I see it slowly but surely...
Getting married, and I need to redo system.. ?'s..
Ummm . . . . maybe it's just me, but I always thought that a spouse was supposed to SUPPORT you in the things you loved and felt passionate about. Or maybe I'm just lucky -- my wife accepted the A/V rig AND the art collection and actually became a...
4.5k on speakers for 5.1 surround. NHT way to go?
If your friend likes the NHT sound, consider picking up some of the older Focused Image Geometry line used -- these are GREAT speakers and are very reasonable used. The VT-3's sound like a great deal, but I question the decision to pair $9000 wort...
Compatible Multichannel Amp for NHT's??
I'm using NHT Focused Image Geometry speakers (2.3As, 2.1s, 1.3As, and SuperZeros) in a 7.1 channel setup with two Rotel amps -- a 5 channel 985THX Mk. II (110 x 5), and a 2 channel 981 (130 x 2), and I'm very pleased with the sound.I've never hea...
Amps, preamps, and home theater
Upgrade the amplifiers . . . . I went from a Denon AVR-87 alone to a using the Denon as a pre to drive a Rotel 985 Mk II for the front three channels (the AVR-87 only had outputs for the three front channels)and it made an amazing difference. The D...
A subwoofer for my NHT SuperZeros
I second the SW2P suggestion . . . . I used precisely that combo for a couple of years, and the sub and SZs worked together beautifully. On top of that, you should be able to get a used SW2P for no more than $300, and quite possibly for less.
Full range rear speakers
A vote for NHT . . . . go with the older NHT focused image geometry line, and stick with models that have the original soft dome tweeter, as opposed to the newer metal tweeter. I use 2.3As in the front and 2.1s in the rear (almost identical -- the...
What's the funniest or dumbest thing you did?
I spent several weeks listening to my home theater DVDs in Dolby Pro-Logic . . . . I always just assumed that the default setting on my new Sony DVP9000ES was 5.1, but it turns out that the factory default is a downmixed PCM signal. What makes it ...
Rotel 985 MK II enough for NHT 2.3As?
Thanks for the tip! I pretty much decided the same thing myself, so I snagged a Rotel RB-981 (130w @ 8ohms) since I wanted to stay all Rotel for power so that everything had matching sonic signatures. Thanks again!
NHT SW2P not enough?
Actually, as it turns out, the problem has taken care of itself. I hooked up the Rotel 985 to my 2.3A front speakers today, and miraculously an extra 40-50Hz of bass appeared! (Guess I should have expected that.) With the front speakers now puttin...
NHT SW2P not enough?
Here are my specs:Room size is about 12' x 25', give or take, but it's also open on one side (to the kitchen and hallway). Ceilings are 9 1/2 feet.I've got lots of space in the room for a second sub, but not much up with the other gear -- my 51" T...
