CD Player buying decisions
I've got the Music Hall in my headphone rig, and like it a lot -- for $400 and change new, it's hard to beat.Check with Underwoodwally here on Audiogon -- he's a Music Hall dealer, and I THINK he's located somewhere in the Atlanta area.
An odd idea
Prpixel --Ouch! Remember that Vibrapod worth of electronics knowledge I mentioned earlier? THANKS for the warning . . . I will relegate that idea to the same dustbin as Communism -- "It SOUNDS like a good idea, but . . . ."Mrpoindexter --Thanks fo...
An odd idea
One nice thing, I guess, is that with using two sets of speaker cables as an option, I can always go ahead and try the amp in the HT system, and then use the cable swapping maneuver if I'm not happy with the cohesion. Thanks for the suggestions!Pat
An odd idea
Sugarbrie --That was my second choice idea . . . . you don't think I'd eventually cause wear damage to the speaker terminals through the repeated plugging and unplugging?
An odd idea
The only problem with using the 2-channel in the HT setup is that I've gone to significant lengths to ensure that my HT setup is as cohesive as possible -- speakers with identical drivers all the way around, and identical amplification (at least i...
How to improve 2-channel performance in HT rig?
No, I haven't tried anything like that. Seems like a good idea, though . . . . I ahould cover all the surfaces of the TV, right? If it works, I'd imagine that a simple four-walled frame could be put together pretty easily, even using something like...
How to improve 2-channel performance in HT rig?
Kirk --Thanks for the suggestions! I've decided to start out by trying to see just how good my DVP9000ES is in terms of Redbook CD playback, so I just ordered a Channel Islands passive preamp -- it's supposed to be EXTREMELY transparent, so it sho...
SACD- my intial thoughts....
A different question . . . . has anyone heard much in the way of SACDs of NEW recordings? Almost everything that I have seen has been repackagings of older (pre-1990) albums. It seems to me that many (if not all) of these could be remastered on Re...
How Important is the receiver vs separates in HT?
Well, I can't speak to the newer (and much better, I'm sure) Lexicon MC-12, but I have a DC-1, and IMO, it is NOT better than Dolby Digital or other discrete playback. It is KILLER for non-5.1 encoded material (use it for cable/satellite, and you'...
CABLE BOX TO WADIA CD PLAYER?
If you're trying to use the digital audio out on your cable box, that may be the problem -- some cable boxes seem to HAVE the digital out jack, but it isn't actually hooked up. My digital cable box (Scientific Atlanta) is that way. I asked the ins...
Speakers and OHMs
I ran into the same problem when I was looking to upgrade my system, only I had already gone and gotten 4 ohm speakers. I searched about for a receiver that would handle 4 ohm loads, but ended up having to buy seperate power amps to smoothly handl...
Are NHT VT2.4's harsh, or is it just me?
Just said the same thing to Erik on my system thread . . . . I think this is a classic example of "It wasn't broke, so you shouldn't have fixed it . . . ."Pat
Are NHT VT2.4's harsh, or is it just me?
I agree with Bigtee -- NHTs generally have a more forward and "brighter" sound, but the metal tweeter in the newer models amplifies (no pun intended) the problem. The original 3.3 (as well as the 2.5, 2.3, 2.1, 1.5, 1.3, etc)had a soft tweeter and...
Getting married, and I need to redo system.. ?'s..
John --I can agree with you almost completely. There's no question that marriage takes an effort, and that various stress factors can certainly make it much more difficult to maintain a happy relationship. Money was certainly an issue in my first ...
Headphone amps HD what are the choices?
I think you'll be very happy with it. For the money, if you like the sound of tubes, I don't think there's any way that you can do better. Just remember not to judge it based on the stock tubes -- it becomes a whole new amp with better tubes. www....
