QUAD ESL 2905 / 2805
I loved my 2805s and used a McIntosh 275 (75wpc) and McIntosh C2300 preamp. The match was great with plenty of power in my 12 X 24 X 8 room. Over the years I used other lower power tube amps which also worked well. But in the two years I owned them...
Rogue Audio Cronus ...what speakers do you love ?
I used mine with Quad 2805 in a smaller room. It was a great match for that room size. I had Rogue modify my Cronus and it was a really sweet sounding amp for the price.
Well recorded records ... what are your picks?
Les Brown goes Direct to Disc...this sounds so natural and dynamic. I've got to get more direct to disc recordings!
Quad ESL owners question
I had the 2805's for several years and loved them, but reliability issues forced me to sell before they turned into larger repair problems. I have replaced them with the new Martin Logan Spires and have not looked back. The Spires have all the tra...
TW Acustic Raven One owners
I am using a Graham Phatom II with a Dynavector XX-2. I have not tried other arms. I agree with Mark that keeping the Stillpoint feet slightly loose (i.e., not tightened against the bottom of the TT) does make a difference and I was surprised at t...
Titanium wand of Graham Phantom 2 for Phantom 1
I agree with Dan. I have the Phantom II and a friend brought over his Phantom I arm (with a very nice PC1 attached!) and it worked perfectly.
What loading do you use on your Dynavector XX2MKII
I go back and forth between 100 and 200, depending on the recording. My McIntosh preamp lets me switch on the fly. In my system, anything under 100 is a little dull and lacks detail and bass impact.
Help bust speaker terminals....Quads 2905s
Hi Grateful (as in Dead?)...yes there was a slight improvement in the highs. I think they are a little cleaner. Cymbols sound more like brass, bells have more clarity, upper register piano is clear without any glassiness. The technician that worked...
Help bust speaker terminals....Quads 2905s
The same thing happened to me. I agree they are flimsy. I was using Cardas spades too.I took mine back to the dealer and had him install heavy duty WBT binding posts. While he was inside, I had him upgrade the capacitors and separate out the +/- i...
Mac C500 vs C1000
Go over to the McIntosh forum of AudioKarma. Either do a search of the archives or post your question over there. You will get a lot of good information.
Quad 2805 reliablity? Distance from wall needed?
I have owned my 2805's for about 3 years without any reliability problems at all. But after reading some of the posts here, on AA, and other sources about the reliability issues with the new Quads I got concerned and called the importer and QS&...
Raven One Owners - some questions
Just a quick update. I have installed the 2" mapleshade platform on the top shelf of my rack, with 4 isoblocks (mapleshade's cork & rubber footers) cut in half, so they only have one layer of cork and rubber. Also, based on a suggestion from J...
Raven One Owners - some questions
Thanks Stiltskin and Sonofjim. You have both convinced me to try some different isolation set-ups. I'll start with what I have -- the extra mapleshade platform -- and see what happens.Stiltskin - I have read good things about the Walker record cle...
Anyone muffel a VPI 16.5
I too use earplugs. I use the foam ones that I also use when cutting my grass or for shooting.Dave
Tube preamp top clearance--McIntosh or in general
Go over to Audiokarma and do a search on the McIntosh Discussion Forum. You will find a lot of (mostly) useful information on the C2300 including comparisons with other McIntosh preamps. Here is one link to a review by TonePub:http://www.audiokarma...
