Help with AudioQuest Cables
I'm pretty sure it went like this. Interconnects: Turquois, Topaz, Ruby, Quartz (later became Opal), Emerald, Lapis, Diamond. Newer versions had the same name followed by X2 or X3. Speaker wire: Type 2, Type 4, Indigo, Midnight, Cobalt, Forest, Cl...
The BEST system you've ever built !!!!
I have built a few systems, mostly mid-fi because of the budget others were working with (i.e., parents & friends). They wanted certain capabilities but didn't want to shell out the $$$. My system has been a "work-in-progress" as it sounds lik...
Worst Music of All-Time
Gee Oldpro, I kinda like "Radar Love" and "Bullit Hits the Bone". Can't say I have heard anything else they have done. But then again I can't think of any more than 1 Talking Heads song I like. Oh well, to each their own.
Wolcott amps The best tube amps?
You may want to define who you're calling a "reviewer". I have heard the Wolcott, have you? I found it to be an excellent amplifier. I heard it in a fellow audiophile's system. He had replaced a much more expensive pair of Vivas. I found the Wolco...
Best MFSL pressing
Rush; "Moving Pictures" and Robin Trower "Bridge of Sighs" - top notch remasters!
Best and Worst customer service?
My best experience has been with Audioquest. Those guye e-mailed me right away, gave me a name & number for future use and even volunteered helpful, related info I didn't even ask for. The worst: SONY by far. Had a camcorder that needed a chip...
Recommend CD Player with Volume Control
Thats a backhanded compliment but I agree with what you say, Petland. I have seen many questions, by a lot of people, that can seem pointed and thus taken the wrong way. I think that "provocative" questions/responses to individuals who post gives ...
barometric level change ?
Phild, You're right about the humid air/dry air thing, but since air-conditioning is designed to remove humidity from the air this probably wouldn't be pertinent to listening indoors (this time of the year anyway). As to sound "pressure" levels, y...
Worst Music of All-Time
I got rid of cable when my kids started getting old enough to watch TV. Not only did it save me $40.00/mo. but now I have control over what comes in to my house. No more MTV or the sleaze of the "reality" shows - playing puppetmaster with cameras ...
Most overpriced audio component made
Case04: A suggestion. Since the you and the dealer seem to have a decent relationship, and you have a freind who owns a hi-fi shop, wouldn't they allow you to audition some cables at home - in your system? Assuming the cables are properly "broken-...
Price/performance curve
BTW: If we couldn't assemble systems that didn't sound good for under $10K, this hobby would only consist of wealthy people. I have had the opportunity to recently listen to a $100K sound system, in a great room. While I enjoy my system, which ret...
Price/performance curve
Sam, the best sounding systems I've heard have all been in large rooms with high ceilings. My room is 23'X 17' with vaulted ceilings that are about 16' at their apex. I just bought this house and have already noticed my system sounds better. It wa...
Price/performance curve
I agree, room has a lot to do with it. If I had a less than adequate, large (also key), room for a Hi-Fi set up, you shouldn't spend more than $5000 for the entire system. Any money spent beyond that and the price/benefit, or "diminshing returns" ...
Help Audio Alchemy
Don't forget to budget for a good power supply. These devices, depending on the version, come with the "wall-wart" kinds. The higher number ones usually come with a Power Station 4 as standard. If you have any not utilizing at least the PS-4 look ...
What deserves to be Remastered on CD?
Tubegroover, thanks for that tip on the Doors! I'll have to see if I can track that down.
