Suggested Recording of Korngold Violin Concerto?
Thanks for that suggestion--I listened to some of it on youtube and it seems to be a fine recording.  However, the violin seems a bit further back in the mix than I would like.  I might go with the Perlman version (which may have the solosit a bit...
What are your notes and thoughts on The Beatles White Album Giles Martin remaster?
I'm quite satisfied with the remastered version of the original mix from a couple of years ago.  I may or  may not plop down more money for a version that may or may not be superior to that one.
Bright or Dim?
Obviously it's because the light waves interfere with the sound waves.
What do you like most? Jazz or Classic?
Jerry worked well for Mahavishnu 1 but I don't think of him as a jazz musician--more a rocker who was able to fit into the M. Orch. fusion scheme.  J-LP was already a jazz player with modern leanings when he played with McLaughlin.  If you look at...
Your Favorite Holiday Album
+1 for Elvis.  There are others I like, but if I only listen to one it is Elvis'.I simply HAVE to hear Blue Christmas (track 1) every year or I just might die.
What do you like most? Jazz or Classic?
I listen to more classical violin than jazz violin, but it's a stacked deck--there are so many more classical violinists to choose from and only a handful of jazzers.  Still, I regard Stephane Grapelli as an important player of his time and Jean-L...
Have you had enough of Classic Rock?
I've got 4 local listener-supported stations that I usually hit before I resort to the commercial airwaves, so I don't hear the classic rock over-saturation enough to care.  But I get where you're coming from.
Your favourite Christmas song.......
slow:  The Christmas Song, Nat King Colefast:  Jingle Bell Rock, Randy Travis  (if you haven't heard this, check it out)
What unknown musical artist would you like to share with your fellow audiophiles?
markmendenhall, Albert Collins played a Telecaster (through a Fender Twin Reverb with the treble on 10 and the bass on 0--it was beyond piercing).
What unknown musical artist would you like to share with your fellow audiophiles?
+1 for Redd Volkaert.  As far as I know he just does covers (I've heard him many times, so I presume that's the case) but he manhandles a telecaster like nobody else.  And it's rarely mentioned but he has a great baritone voice.  I'm hoping to see...
Carpenters
rpeluso, I'm sure you can still get the original mixes.  I would trust Richard Carpenter to remix the tracks in a way that is faithful to the original intent while taking advantage of modern technology.
Sarasate Suggestion
Shadorne, they were ALL child prodigies.  And, FWIW, I like Mutter's playing very much.
Bach Double Violin Concerto
there's a vinyl CD of David and Igor Oistrakh playing that piece.  There's also two movements (II and III) of them playing that same piece available on video.  I haven't heard the LP but the live performance on video is very good.
If you could only keep 5 record albums, what would they be?
A Hard Day’s Night (Beatles, UK Stereo)Pet Sounds (Beach Boys, 90’s stereo mix)The Inner Mounting Flame (Mahavishnu Orchestra)Goldberg Variations (Bach/Glenn Gould, 1981 ) Late Quartets (Beethoven/Guarneri Quartet)
Which band IS really America's Greatest (rock & roll band)?
All things considered, I think CCR for several reasons, including their diverse American influences and their crossover appeal.  I'm pretty sure a lot of country and soul/R&B fans gave them "thumbs up" and some even bought their records. If lon...
