PS Audio PWD MkII vs W4S DAC2
+1 to what Vhiner said.
Stylus force digital scales
I use the cheaper model electronic scales ( I have two), and the clearaudio teeter totter scale.Jim, have you compared how well the clearaudio does next to the digital scales?I used one of these digital jobs for a while until one of the segments i...
Test LP's Worth it?
I have both the HFN Test Record and the Cardas Test Record. IME using the HFN I would not depend on it for anti-skate adjustment. It tends to cause overcompensation for A-S. I found better results using the dead wax tracking method (you can find i...
Cones under a suspended table?
Mike, yes I was thinking of getting the add on screw posts and giving them a try, but at the same time I'd been thinking of getting a new custom plinth. :-) One thing at a time.
Cones under a suspended table?
I decided to try Mk4 cones first since the timing worked (they showed up for sale at the right time :-) ). I actually set them up with the pointy end up, set into the little depressions where the feet are. I think they work pretty well. Going to l...
Is Benz Micro no longer in business?
There are in fact still in business, near as I can tell. I got an SL from them about 6 weeks ago.
Will I hear differences between 8TC and 12TC?
Bo1972, which Audioquests do you find to be in a similar price range but worth considering over the white/clear 8TCs?
If you had a Benz cartridge would you let someone
Wow, I've heard good things about the Paua. Glad to hear you're enjoying it. I sent my old L2 off the SS because it just couldn't track anymore. Went for the Evaluation; after I hear the verdict I may consider going beyond a repair. The Paua is to...
If you had a Benz cartridge would you let someone
Jrsbat2, can you provide more info on this? What Benz did you have and what SS did you get? How would you compare the sound of what you're getting now to the Benz?
If you had a Benz cartridge would you let someone
Nandric, from what I understand SS offers either a new stylus and cantilever, or really a new "retip" - replacing the stylus on the existing cantilever. And yes it is more expensive than the first option. I think they recommend this as an option f...
If you had a Benz cartridge would you let someone
I sent my Benz LP to Soundsmith for a retip only, i.e. on the existing cantilever. SS did N excellent job and the Benz sounds like new again.Salectric, I was curious as to whether your retipped Benz sounds about the same, just different, or better...
VTF, VTA, SRA, and 92 degrees - question
I spent a good chunk of the afternoon realigning everything starting with setting the cart dead level. After tweaking and adjusting I think I can safely say that at least in my case it makes absolutely no difference in how the cart tracks, or the ...
VTF, VTA, SRA, and 92 degrees - question
can you hear any difference between 1 degree changes?Well, I was as careful with my Denon 103R in experimenting and I heard a difference between 92 and 90 degress with that cart, which has a plain old spherical stylus. But I really didn't mean my ...
VTF, VTA, SRA, and 92 degrees - question
Well, with all the measuring tools, calibrated blocks, and digital photos I have I think (!) I can get back to where I am now. I'm going to try again by starting with the cart at horizontal and see what happens from there.
VTF, VTA, SRA, and 92 degrees - question
Yes, you're right Peter. I guess my real concern is how much / whether a non optimal SRA can impact tracking ability. With everything set the way it is, I'm running a VTF of just under 2.1 grams for good tracking. That's a bit above the magic 1.9 ...
