What music would you like at your funeral?
Taling Heads, "And she was"
pls recommend some "entry level" tube amp options?
For used amps you might want to check out the Golden Tube Audio SE-40. These were designed as 40w stereo (which might be enough for your room and system) and they were frequently bridged to make an 80w monoblock. Some of the later products might h...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
I've been listening to a 1980 Deutsche Grammophon LP of Vivaldi's L'Estro Armonico, it's a 3 LP boxed set and an excellent recording with very nice imaging of the violins. I know there are many different recordings of these concertos - I'd be ver...
recommended redbook classics
Great question. ArkivMusic.com has a recommended list that they rated 10/10 for both "Artistic Quality and Sound Quality", that might be a good resource if you have not already seen it. But I'd also like to see what other Gon'ers think on this topic.
What are your favorite web pages?
There was a topic on the Tour de France a few months ago - can't find it now, but since there was a lot of interest in biking on audiogon, thought I would share this with y'all: www.worldcycling.com has put out a 12 hour DVD with extensive coverag...
Preamp Deal of the Century
I don't want to pick a fight, but here's another alternative - Mick could raise the prices by $500 so that he can hire a marketing person to announce new developments in a more "sensitive" way, and then another $500 increase so he can update the w...
Shipping Speakers, watch out
This is a preamp, but still, I need to vent - I just shipped an ARC PH3 in the original double box with foam panels between the boxes...via UPS. There was no visible damage to the box but UPS had managed to knock loose a tube and shake loose a wir...

What LP shows what analog can do?
Try Acoustic Sounds for new vinyl: http://store.acousticsounds.com/I've had really mixed luck with used classical, sometimes they look as if they are in good shape but have pretty bad noise, even after using a VPI record cleaner. thanks for all th...
Audes' "Blue" Speaker: 2000 Marvel?
Any recommendations on SS amps for the Audes Blues? Some of the posts above suggested that you need to be careful in choice of SS amplification. I'm considering the Musical Fidelity A3, would this mate well with the Blues? Thanks,
Hum with surge protector
I had a ground loop hum in my ML speakers when plugged into the MR1200. The dealer recommended that I plug the speakers into the wall, and that solved the hum problem...but it left me withour surge protection for the speakers.
Sony 9000es DVD/CD/SACD Player as Transport?
Zug - thanks for your post above, I've been trying to decide whether to replace my 9000ES, have it modified, or try it with a DAC. Sounds like the DAC with the 9000ES is probably not the way to go.
What CDP or DAC would you buy with $1,000?
Socrates - how was the shootout, and what did you end up with?
CD Player Advice
I don't understand the benefit of the belt drive - but I also don't know how the CDP is designed...for a digital format, I would think the best solution would be to read an entire song (or the entire disc) into RAM and design the digital processin...
CD Player Advice
I've been looking for a CDP in about the same price range. There are many many many recommendations in the archives, I've spent the last week reading the archives, and my conclusion is.... (drum roll)...lot's of different advice and the only conse...
