The 805C does not use 300B tubes as output power devices, they use the 845.
Integrated amp to drive ProAc 1sc
Gunbei - we also need to check what's called the phase angle of crossover as the flatter that is (less steep) the less power is needed to drive. I have a friend with 84db Spendors. You'd think he'd need a min. of 100wts to drive but since the impe...
Integrated amp to drive ProAc 1sc
The 2.5s are only 86db efficient but have a very stable impendance curve (I don't think they drop below 6ohms) and a benign phase angle making them quite easy to drive.I also remember something about the Merlins as regards using tube or SS but, ba...
Merlin Owners - Opinions?
I've heard nothing but good things about Mr. Palkovic and will definitely contact him but am also interested in hearing from owners in this regard. Primarily interested in differences between the two models and what kind of sonic signature they ha...
Integrated amp to drive ProAc 1sc
Ecclectique - Ever heard the large Merlins (or even small ones) and if so, how do they compare to 2.5s? Also, I remember hearing about 5-6 years ago that some people were modding the 2.5s' crossovers and swearing it simply improved what was alread...
Integrated amp to drive ProAc 1sc
Amen, Ecclectique and Gunbei. I feel terrible as I almost worked out a deal to sell my 2.5s but I just can't - almost like ending a friendship for no reason. Maybe some day I'll upgrade to Merlin's floorstander but until then...
Integrated amp to drive ProAc 1sc
Gunbei - I auditioned in my home the Tablette Sig. before deciding on the 2.5s 7 years ago as I really hoped to find something less expensive. The Tabs were so bright and, as my wife called them, cold sounding that I couldn't even consider them. T...
Integrated amp to drive ProAc 1sc
Anyone else find the 1sc a bit bright and etched sounding? I can't imagine using many SS or any ARC amps with it. Now the Resonse 2, 2s, and 2.5s, yes. Also, it seems people are saying 300B SETs are powerful enough to drive this speaker - I presum...

Air Tight ATM300 - one of the most neutral SETs around and built like a battleship. Tamura trannies, point-to-point wiring, self biasing, comes with WE 300B output tubes. Do some tube rolling for the input and rectifier tubes.

Ahhh...hee! hee!
Old Classic Receivers: A Mistake to Buy?
I, too, love the look and feel of the old recievers such as my first Sansui from 1974 but...! I went to a local hi-fi show last winter which had a lot of old gear with about 3-4 systems driven by 25-35 yr old receivers - all of which sounded prett...
I need a quiet tube amp
Crazy4blues - You owe me a burrito! The first two years of owning the 2.5s I had a Mesa Baron 150wt tube amp and have also used a 150wt SS and 25wt various tube and SS amps. The ProAcs sound best with the Air Tight ATM300 but, again, they are a ve...
Can tube amps play loudly?
Audio Research makes (made) a good integrated with remote control which you should be able to find used for your price without a problem. It's a damn good match with ProAc Response series speakers which, if you're real lucky, you might find a pair...
I need a quiet tube amp
See my last entry. The 2.5s are an extremely easy load especially in a small room like mine (see my entry above!) although the 2A3 monos I owned a few years ago failed miserably. However, my Air Tight has more drive power than any other 300B amp I...
I need a quiet tube amp
I am definitely going to check out the ground loop issue immediately. But, as regards the speaker issue, the ProAc 2.5s have an impendance curve of about 6.5ohms to 11ohms and an extemely benign phase angle which, even at 87db, makes them a very e...
