How many pair of speakers do you own? Three...no, four. No, wait a minute. Does my wife's dresser top system count?
newbie question on TUBE gears. You need to tell us what speakers will be used. I personally love tube amps and have owned various ones for 23 years. However, I also like tube pre-amps and the well designed ones are virtually maintenance free. Maybe replace the small tubes every...
Can I expect to pay full retail for a new system? Examples:Purchased $5,000.00 speakers, new, from authorized dealer for $3,900.00.Purchased $3,200.00 speakers, new from dealer, for $2,400.00.Purchased $4,500.00 amp, new from dealer, for $3,600.00.Purchased $1,400.00 subwoofer, new from dealer, f...
Speakers Like Merlin VSM? Merlins are definitely a speaker "of choice". I found the TSM-MXs a bit fatiguing and rather uninteresting. Tried three different amps (an Air Tight 300B actually worked the best) and still could not get interested in listening to music through th...
Information for Joule Electra LA100 Mark III I 2nd (or is this 3rd or 4th?) the motion - I find it superior to units costing $2-3,000.00 more as I'd owned or borrowed four other such units. It is the most musical and enjoyable pre-amp I've owned and is well worth the cost. Simply disappears ...
has any one owned a pair of Spica sc 30? They were one of the first speakers I ever heard that disappeared. Tonal quality was very good, too. However, they couldn't play loudly and were restricted at both frequency extremes. They were replaced with the TC50s about 1983.
Rel Strata III versus Rel Britannia B3 I've had a Strata III for about 3-4 years and have been able to successfully blend it with 5 different speakers. I most recently bought a pair of Dynaudio Focus 110s for fun and was able to blend in 4 adjustments. Since the REL takes a small signa...
Perfect linestage for Quicksilver V4s or Triodes? Watch out for the Audible Illusions stuff. Haven't heard any of their pre-amps in a few years but they always sounded kinda cloudy and thick. Depending on what you want to spend, check out the Joule Electra LA150 (which, of course, is what I have ...
Seeking hot running amps Plinius makes great sounding amps that, when run in class A, will heat up the most chilly of rooms.
What new amp for my Merlins Am I missing something? Which model do you have?
Taylor Hicks from Idol I love the music Taylor loves. I just ordered "Otis Redding Live In Europe" which I wore out when I was 15. That and every James Brown, Wilson Pickett, Johnnie Taylor, Joe Tex, etc. album available.
I think it is time to retire Van Morrison's voice never sounded anything close to 'clear' but one of the great rock & roll voices. Fagen's voice on his new one sounds awful - weak and lacking in range. Like he can't get down lower than the top of his throat (which is how ...
Anyone heard Harbeth HL5s with Nuforce? I have their little brother, C7, and used a Plinius SA50mkIII which was quite nice. Am now using an EAR 890 70 wt tube amp and love it.
amber In about 1982 I ran two Ambers as monoblocks. They were decent sounding solid state devices and, as I remember, the company was run by a passion for audio and music making. I don't even remember a pre-amp, though.
Anyone try Townshend Super Tweeters? I've been using Tonian Supertweeters (ribbon) with Harbeth C7s for a number of months. They've added openess, air, sparkle(the good kind - like finer musical nuance) along with extended highs. Tonian matched them for my speakers specifially and se... |
