Good points all. I have a dedicated "home-run" line from the breaker box to my dedicated listening room. I still have some issues with hum depending on which culprit (dishwasher, timer, washing machine, dryer, hair-dryer, toaster, microwave oven, ...

@elizabeth , excellent point! I have found the better my system gets the lower the volume I need to "sound good". I also rarely go above 80 dB C- weighted peaks.Tom

I think Herb Reichert (of Stereophile) liked a MM cart that only costs $35! Sorry, forget the brand and model, but it should be easy to find. I think it was reviewed in 2016, maybe 2017...

Flooring advice on basement listening room.
My dedicated room is engineered wood floor, large heavy area rug covering 70% of floor, acoustic panels from Primacoustic. Sounds wonderful.

Agree with others here, vinyl done right is not simple! Digital would meet her needs much better.
