Who's Your Favorite Bass Players; Why?
Siliab:Right on regarding the ultra-influencial Larry Graham. I'd say it's tough to decide who was more influencial, Larry or James Jamerson. Both are legends. And yes, thank you for reminding me of Duck Dunn. He is definitely one of my favorite pl...
Best affordable amp for Thiel CS3.6
Really?! I had thought of the HCA-2, but wouldn't have thought that it would have enough juice for the CS3.6's. I will try to check out that article. Thanks, Tom.
Best affordable amp for Thiel CS3.6
Actually, no. I had not considered Spectral, and I had forgotten that Progressive carried them. Which model Thiels do you have? The word that I am receiving is that the CS3.6's are some of the hardest Thiels to drive, and that in fact, they rank u...
Best affordable amp for Thiel CS3.6
The only disadvantage to Theta, is that from what I recall, their price point is fairly close to Krell, so I'd probably be tempted to go Krell. Still, they definitely seem worth checking out.
Best affordable amp for Thiel CS3.6
My local dealer, whom I enjoy working with, sells (among other things) Krell, Theta, and McCormack. I would love to have a Krell FPB300cx, but it looks like I am on more of a McCormack budget, especially if I buy new. Any thoughts on a DNA-225 for...
Best affordable amp for Thiel CS3.6
Gnobber:Good point about doubling down. I know those Thiels present a demanding load, and I want to make sure the amp is up to the challenge. Do you think the benefits from the McCormack to Classe had more to do with increased headroom and the mon...
Best affordable amp for Thiel CS3.6

Pro PA Amp Recommendation
I have used a number of pro PA amps, and to me, it is hard to beat QSC's PLX line. Their combination of power, clean sound, reliability, and light weight is excellent, especially considering the price point. Crown makes a number of great amps as w...
Best single-malt Scotch...
Gliderguider is dead spot on with my impressions (to the extent that I have had experience with the brands he mentions). Lagavulin is my #1 fave, but I do stray for variety's sake, every now and then (including single-barrel bourbons and cognac). ...
Who's Your Favorite Bass Players; Why?
Well, I DO really like myself, and it's not like I personally know many of the others mentioned, so... ;^pActually, y'all have covered it pretty well. I'll second Dean Peer, but he's so expansive in his playing that it's hard to even consider him ...
Favorite all-in-one remote control?
This is a very helpful thread! I have been trying to decide if I should attempt to program the remote that came with my Rotel RSP-1066 (which IS a learning remote, but which is not the easiest thing to setup or use), or if I should pickup another ...
Which Classic Componets Would You Collect?
KGveteran:I agree. You can quote many amps that sound better than the GFA-555II, but how many of them are of a comparable price and comparable power? Not many at all. And they are built like tanks, too.Later, Tom.
Which Classic Componets Would You Collect?
Well, I was pleased to see that I already own a couple of the products on the Stereophile list:The Advent LoudspeakerThiel CS3.6Adcom GFA-555(II) - I own two of theseIt is also worth mentioning (again) that ebay has some pretty good deals on some ...
Thiel speakers... one more try
I do believe that the 2.4's are a bit lacking in the lower registers, and that they don't have a lot of weight to their sound (which is why I chose CS3.6's). From what I have read, the 2.2's have a more severe lack of low end, which is why I would...
Thiel speakers... one more try
If the Thiel's sound better to you, then I would pick them up. As mentioned above, trust your ears and don't worry about resale. From a potential buyer's remorse perspective, would you rather have that niggling sensation in the back of your mind t...
