Best value speakers available The very early AR's have to be on this list. The various iterations of the AR-2 and AR-3 were budget speakers based upon price, but have stood the test of time as great sounding boxes. Of the more modern offerings, I agree that Vandersteen makes g...
Power conditioner for amps Well, after talking extensively with my local dealer and with Albert Porter, I am going to pick up three UO's (two regular and one 20 amp high current) for my three circuits (two dedicated) that will power my stereo/HT system. On the two regular U...
Room treatment advice Yes, thank you for the response, Goinbroke (great name!). Interesting point about keeping the levels approximately the same from all sides. I may not be able to completely solve that problem, but you have given me some ideas. In addition, I have, ...
Power conditioner for amps Sounds promising. I will look Albert up.Thanks again, Tom.
Power conditioner for amps Not a bad idea, Slipknot. With any luck, I will be able to install two new 20A lines, in addition to the shared circuit that is already there. Between these three circuits, I should be able to adequately divvy everything up. It sounds like I will ...
Power conditioner for amps Just curious if you folks using Ultimate Outlets also used PS Audio Power Ports, or if regular old receptacles would do the trick. Also, I obviously want the high current for my amps, but I am not sure if I should get the 15 amp or the 20 amp. Is ...
Power conditioner for amps Slipknot:Sorry for not crediting you with that quote. I did know it was you. And thanks again for the good advice! Also, great point about sticking with Audiogon sellers. This is, indeed, a great resource, and I'd like to see its supporters contin...
Power conditioner for amps I have a high current UO for my mono amps on a dedicated line, and another standard UO for my source components on a line, and the surge issues being dealt with at the service panel.Excellent advice! I have consulted with my electrician, and with ...
Best center speakers for dialogue clarity? On the flip side, I have found my Thiel SCS3 to excel at both music and dialog clarity. I had heavily considered the larger of the two NHT centers to go along with my Thiel 3.6's, but once I compared it to the SCS3, I was immediately blown away by...
Quality small sub for HT and music I am in a similar predicament. It seems like in addition to the Velodyne digital series subs, ACI and REL are the companies to check out.Tom.
Thiel CS1.6 vs Sonus Faber Grand Piano - $5k budgt If you go with the CS1.6's, save some cash for a nice subwoofer. I auditioned them with the SCS3, and while the imaging and soundstage was very nice, they need some help in the low end. The SCS3 really impressed me. I picked one up to use with my ...
Any WARM, MUSICAL speakers out there? Lots of good responses already, but to throw out another angle, I found that the slightly older Thiel designs were a tad warmer and more musical than their very latest designs (which seem to be more concise, yet somewhat thinner). The CS3.6, CS5 a...
Power conditioner for amps Brian:That would have been my thought. Tell me, does your ACE-515 get hot? Mine really does, and it gets hotter than my amps do. I am trying to contact Adcom, but they don't seem to answer their e-mails.Tom.
Power conditioner for amps Slipknot1:Good idea about the dedicated circuit and whole house surge. I had been thinking about that for a while. I have not heard of the PS Audio Ultimate Outlet. I will have to look into that. Thanks, Tom.
Recommendation for multi-ch pre/pro You might also want to consider the Rotel RSP-1066. It may not quite compare to the Krell Showcase, but for the price, it is commendable. I recently picked one up, and I am very happy with it both as a stereo pre and for HT.Tom. |
