How do I reduce the overall gain in my preamp ? I would not try to modify your preamp.I would look at getting a different preamp or look at getting a source that outputs less. Or look at getting speakers that are less sensative.Just my 2c.KF
Why do digital cables sound different? I still think a more interesting question is: Why do AC cables sound so different? or Why do AC cords make such an impact on a systems sound? The AC cord seems much more mysterious to me because it does not directly carry the audio signal at all in...
Biggest Baddest Audio Cables Virtual Dynamics Nite cables, and very heavy and very thick and have WBT RCA connsctors which connect very well to components. They can damage your gear if you are not careful. The latest and greatest also sound quite good as well.KF
Electrocompaniet owners Unsound,I am all for freedom of speech. And it is not collusion for a manufacturer or even a dealer to request that you not announce the price you paid to the public for a particular item. Especially if someone is getting something AT COST for 20%...
Electrocompaniet owners Subaruguru: $800 retail for parts that cost less than $80!!! This should tell you something about EC. How much do you think are the parts for an entire EMC 1 mk2 UP?Ernie, all I have to say is what are you going to do the next time they offer an u...
Arguments for or against dedicated vs combo CD/DVD Unsound, you are right about a combi player saving money and space of 3 or more separate individual players. So instead of me paraphrasing Charles Hanson of Ayre, let me provide you with a link to his post where he states what I paraphrased above:h...
Arguments for or against dedicated vs combo CD/DVD Usually the more a component does, the less effective it is at each task. Especially with a baseline price of a component that performs less tasks. CD/DVD/SACD all use different laser mechanisms in an all in one player. More parts equate to higher...
help, has anyone heard the ayre ax7 integrated?? I love Ayre gear, and I would guess that this is a great solid state integrated amp. The AX-7 is what I would buy for a 2nd system if I had the urge for a second system.YOu can see my Ayre gear at the following link:http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-b...
Placette vs. Creek remote volume controllers? Thinks for clarifying the Placette up. I did not realize that (it's passive section) it is a true 100% passive design (thus not reliant on power).I like learning new things in this forum.:-)KF
Placette vs. Creek remote volume controllers? Tireguy, I have never found a component that does not put some sort of sonic signature on a signal. Theoretically, the Placette may not do this; however, in reality, I am willing to bet that different power cords on the Placette will make it sound...
Have you ever deceived your wife-audio purchase I just tell my wife, I am selling X component to buy Y component. I tend to tell her that they are about the same price... heh heh...KF
Am I underpowering my Magnepan 3.6's? Wharrenh is right. Maggies LOVE power. When I had the 3.6's, my best setup had them being driven by 2 Plinius SA100 mk3 amps in MONO (665 wpc into the Maggies). The Maggies LOVED it. If you can afford the upgrade in power, I wholeheartedly suggest...
Magneplanar's Today is your lucky day because I have had this equipment setup with the Maggie 3.6's.See my system with pics at this link:http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?vopin&1043544749&read&3&4&Yes you can get very good sound out of...
Read My List With 86db speakers you are probably going to need some power. How big is your room? And what is your budget?KF
