best used transport 400-700 All I have to say is: Audio Alchemy DDS-PRO with I2S output into an I2S DAC. This transport is the best AA ever made. And, I2S is the best way to move digital data.Keith
New Transport Approach Just a thought...You really would not need 700 MB ram.I suggest using 128MB or 256MB of ram, and having a 14+ GB removeable hard drive in the unit. This way an entire CD or DVD could be read into the hard drive. Data would flow from the hard drive ...

Need help with speakers for HT I would recommend the Accarian Alon line for HT. These speakers new are a good value. Find them used, and they are a GREAT value. I use Alon II mkII's as my front (L/R), I use an Alon Center channel and Alon Petites for rears. I get all of them us...
2nd question-Mid-Fi DVD/CDP Carousel + Good DAC = ???? Frankly, a Sony 300 disk changer is probably a better transport than your old 1986 CD player. I have a 300 disk changed I have used as a jukebox for commercial recordings plugged into $3k+ DAC and it sounds great. Not as good as my great Audio Alc...
1st Question-have CDP 's really improved in recent years? The answer is: YES. Digital has immensly improved since 1986. You can get a quality DAC (esp used) for around $500 that will make your jaw drop. It has been a while since I shopped in that price range, but I am positive you can get a piece of gear...
New Maggie 3.6 OR 10 yr old Sound lab A-1 s Telescope trade,Modern M-1's may beat Maggie 3.6's soundwise... but the M-1 is a new $14k speaker and the Maggie is a new $4k speaker. If I could afford $14k on a speaker the Sound Labs speakers might be perfect.I have never heard the Sound Labs A...
New Maggie 3.6 OR 10 yr old Sound lab A-1 s I would go with the 3.6's. OFC I have lived with a pair for over 2 years, and I love the Maggies!Always remember that speakers have moving parts. Stuff with moving parts wears down, so after 10 years... Who knows how much life the A-1's have in th...

Need some wisdom comparing planars Tim,The first thing one must ask themselves when getting a music system is: How much to budget? Personally, I prescribe to the notion that you build an audio system backwards. Start with the speaker you love, followed by an amp to go with the spea...
AR 100.2 or Aragon 8008BB? Sorry,I was thinking the AR 100.2 was a AR VT100 mk2.I am not familiar with the AR 100.2
How did U get into this expensive hobby? My next door neighbor was very into audio when I was in Jr. High and High School. We were in the same class, and we are still friends to this day. (He actually is partners with my mom in a bookstore). Anyway, his system was midfi. He had a Kenwood...
AR 100.2 or Aragon 8008BB? I have listened to both amps extensively. The AR 100.2 will give you much better sound quality. It is pretty high powered for a tube amp and will be able to drive a lot of different speakers. The 8008BB is a high current ss amp that will let you dri... |
