Subwoofer speed is in the room, not the box If you put the mains through a capacitor that was not previously there, what does that do to the overall phasing of the drivers, including the mid and high that now have an additional capacitor in their circuit? What influence would this have on ...
Harbeth vs Graham audio I have original Chartwell LS3/5As (with an extra NOS woofer) but my room is big and I like to listen at realistic levels. They sound beautiful in small spaces and at low volumes..., relative to the room. I could probably turn them up but don't w...
Drag on driver causing noise Sometimes a voice coil rub can be mitigated by turning the speaker over (i.e. rotating it 180 degrees). If they are small, perhaps you could try rotating the cabinet to find a position where this doesn’t occur, then re-mount the woofer to this pos...
3-4 dB dip at crossover region: what should I listen for to hear it? Probably. Each shape of horn will have its own set of peaks and dips.
3-4 dB dip at crossover region: what should I listen for to hear it? As I said, dips in the upper midrange are characteristic of the breed when using horns. JBL 4348: 4345: 4355: 4333 (L300 pro equivelent) I have a pair of L200 modified to L300 specs and the dips drive me crazy. I don’t even l...
3-4 dB dip at crossover region: what should I listen for to hear it? The depressed upper midrange is no stranger to JBL professional monitors all the way back. Some are worse than others.
3-4 dB dip at crossover region: what should I listen for to hear it? The range in question is above the fundamental pitch of most singers and it is the overtones that add "brightness" to the sound. Perfect example. Listen how her voice (maybe guitar too?) is a bit more "laid back" with the JBLs.
3-4 dB dip at crossover region: what should I listen for to hear it? With a dip of that magnatude in that area, you will hear a "dullness/flatness" in the vocals as though the overtones are subdued. Many JBLs suffer from this.
Led Zep Fool in the Rain Maybe not a shuffle (actually a swing), but just gotta love the drums on this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMGeqRxzykA
Using PA Speakers In A Home "Audiophile" Application! simonmoon: If you are ever in Southern California, you need to come to my house and hear what PA components set in the right cabinets can do for imaging and soundstage, clarity, and precision of instrument and vocal placement. Some of the "PA" c...
Good Speakers for Rock and Roll Under 15K Have you considered used equipment? Where are you at as location has a lot to do with availability and pricing? For $15K, you could do very well in the used market for dynamite speakers AND the equipment to run them.
Using PA Speakers In A Home "Audiophile" Application! While the Merman’s use some "PA" components, they are quite unlike any other speakers I’ve heard in their presentation, soundstage, and imaging. And don’t even get me started on dynamic impact! It is uncanny and anyone is welcome to come by and he...
Using PA Speakers In A Home "Audiophile" Application! The crossovers used in PA speakers are typically designed more for power handling than that nth degree of que ne se quoi for ultra high fidelity. But that doesn’t mean that they can’t be adapted for home use with quite good results. This is just C...
(dons Helmet, kevlar vest and cup.) Biwiring Cornwall IVs any benefit? He’s wrong at 13:50 and the high frequencies goes though the upper wire and the low frequencies go through the lower wire. When he says the "signal" he is referring to the "potential" to take the signal from there, but as he shows, only the curre...
Sound Stage and Imaging ...And I would love to be shown otherwise. But I know of nobody with an OB system. As I said, I’m in Orange County, CA and would love to exchange listening pleasures. ...And, anyone is welcome to come by my place and hear what soundstage and imag... |
