Are you not able to just determine for yourself the quality of recordings, which recordings do the audiophile ’parameters’ well, etc? You need some other guy to make a playlist for you with artists and tracks you may not like? What is even the po...
Magnepan LRS+ resistors on the tweeters… which?
You can ALWAYS use resistors of a higher wattage value here. Just don’t go for a lower wattage. A higher wattage resistor will better dissipate the heat. The downside it that you typically pay more and if the extra "capacity" is not necessary, wh...

An interesting effect that I’ve encountered. On the Beatles Love SACD, as they "work into" Lucy in the Skies as the harpsichord pans left, it pans rearward (toward the front wall) and when it then pans right, it pans forward toward the listened t...

It would be nice. On another site in the past I had started a thread of tracks with "extreme" soundstage/imaging. I remember starting it with this cut where the Rhodes should extend well beyond the speakers and even walls with some saying they w...

Mills (12 watt) while not cheap are very nice without getting into high-end boutique (=$$$).  You can get them from Parts Express.

coltrane1 According to the video they are Lii Audio PT-10/W-15. I know they are certainly far from cheap, but they just don’t do it for me. Maybe it’s the track. IIRC, I have that one on CD and will have to listen on my system.

Does it get better than this, because it really doesn’t do it for me? I’ve heard similar live and..., meh. The peak in the vocals here would drive me crazy. https://youtu.be/eB6ZJvLICVo

I don’t believe that Dalquist DQ10s really qualify as open backs. The woofer is in a separate sealed container (closed back). The lower midrange has a thick piece of padding that covers the back of the cone to remove any rear radiation/reflectio...
Is "detailed" audiophile code for too much treble?
Another way to look at this, does “reality” have too much detail? Barring the use of excess hallucinogenic drugs, the answer is “no”. But in music, what is reality? Just one example that we’ve probably all heard. When I listen to my system, I o...
15 amp circuit VS. 20 amp Circuit
I rewired my home entertainment system when I saw a good deal on a 125’ spool of 8 gauge wire. There are NO splices along the line and it terminates in a 30 amp plug that feeds the industrial surge protector for equipment in the entertainment cent...

When Dizzy is blowing his horn, certainly some sound goes to the rear and bounces around. But with open back, were talking essentially as much sound going "backward" as is going forward, and it’s out of phase. Maybe this is proper for a Leslie, a...

They’ve never really done it for me, but I’ve heard few. Also, I am of the opinion that when sound is coming from the rear and bouncing willy-nilly about the room, it may give a sense of depth to the soundstage but can’t really be good for imagin...
Happy listening in SoCal
To reduce the background noise, I tend to turn off the a/c and fans when listening to music unless it becomes too uncomfortable.  The a/c units consume far more than the stereo. We also have solar, but SCE still finds ways to screw us.
When I listen to my system.......
Claiming a recording IS real music is analogous to saying a photograph of my dog IS my dog (without the fur :-). Really not the same thing at all. No not at all. It comes down to your definition of music and I choose to agree with Wikipedia’s. I ...
When I listen to my system.......
Agreed "music" does not have to be live to be music. But even a live performance performed though any sort of public address system is subject to many of the same "flaws" as a recorded track. What of the music that is performed simultaneously wi...
